Recently, singer Morgan Wallen surprised his fans by releasing a new song called Smile. Just Jared reported on December 31 that according to the country singer's label, the song is,
"A continuation of a theme set by previous releases, Lies Lies Lies and Love Somebody, as the narrator navigates life's little moments and longings."
The song's subject is a couple's lonely existence behind what seems to be a lovely photo. The lyrics are as follows:
“I can’t remember the last time / You looked as happy as you did tonight / Your tipsy friend grabbed that bartender / Gave him her phone and pulled us over there with her..”
Meanwhile, the song's teaser, which was released on Wallen’s official Instagram page on December 31, has already garnered over 300K likes. When the video went viral, fans flooded the post's comment section to react to the teaser. One alleged that he is “about to drop the greatest 57 song album.”
Others also said similar things. One said that it's going to be “another record breaker”, while another one said that it's allegedly going to be No. 1 on their “2025 Spotify wrapped.”
Others also preached to the choir as one said that the teaser and the news made them smile. Another Instagram user said that Wallen is ending 2024 with a banger.
Morgan Wallen’s new song has an undertone of the complexity of modern relationships
The new track Smile by Morgan Wallen was released at midnight on December 31 and was a complete surprise. Justin Clough directed the official music video, which was hinted at on his Instagram and TikTok accounts.
According to the December 31 report from Country Central, Smile carries on Wallen's theme of looking for real, sincere love, which was sparked by his previous singles, Love Somebody and Lies Lies Lies.
As per the same outlet, through filtered pictures, the singer's new song "depicts a relationship as we see them today." The new song has Morgan Wallen singing:
“It was good to see you smile / Girl you know it’s been a while / It was good to see you smile / Even if it was just for the picture...”
Using the pictures further conveys the ephemeral feelings and complexity of contemporary relationships. It is a story that speaks to listeners going through comparable situations.
A late-night chat program serves as the backdrop for the music video. Morgan Wallen looks at a woman seated in a chair on the other side of the room, but he stays silent. The support staff is confused as he performs an impromptu Smile and prepares to sing the opening words of Love Somebody.
The woman observes Wallen's performance in the interim. He returns to his dressing room by himself after the performance is over. Meanwhile, Wallen was quite busy with his tour. The two-year tour addressed audiences in 10 countries and included 87 gigs, including 57 in stadiums. It also established Wallen as one of the biggest artists in country music and broke attendance records.
Meanwhile, Morgan Wallen has kept his plans quiet as 2025 approaches. It's unclear as of yet if he intends to launch a new musical era or to build on the success of his album One Thing At a Time with further singles, as there has been no announcement of a large tour or the prospect of a new studio album.
