Singer Bruce Springsteen has assured fans that he is not quitting anytime soon while addressing farewell tour rumors in his August 23 concert at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Addressing a massive crowd during the performance, Springsteen said:
“We’ve been around for 50 f***ing years, and we ain’t quitting! We ain’t doing no farewell tour bulls**t! Jesus Christ! No farewell tour for the E Street Band!”
The rockstar continued:
“Farewell to what? A thousand people screaming your name? Get the hell out. I ain’t going anywhere!”
Springsteen's declaration came amid rumors of Springsteen's speculated retirement due to recurring health issues. The August 23 show is a part of the Springsteen and the E Street Band tour's North American leg. The band has been performing in various locations across the US and Europe during the current tour.
However, Bruce Springsteen had to reschedule some of the performances due to his health struggles with peptic ulcers last year in September. The performances were rescheduled for 2024. Meanwhile, the North American leg of the tour is set to wrap up on November 22 following performances in Toronto and Vancouver in Canada.
Bruce Springsteen addressed 2023 canceled shows due to peptic ulcer struggles
In his August 23 performance in Philadelphia, Bruce Springsteen spoke about his struggles with peptic ulcers which forced him to cancel some shows in 2023. During his concert, the singer said:
“Anything I did, my belly hurt. Trying to sing, my belly hurt. If I tried to play the guitar, my belly hurt. If I went to kiss my baby, my belly hurt! I was laying there thinking, ‘F**k, I’d rather be in Philadelphia!’”
Earlier this year in May, Springsteen had to further cancel shows in Marseille, Prague, and Milan during the European leg of his tour. The tour resumed once again in Madrid on June 12.
The singer and his band released an official statement on social media, explaining that doctors have advised Springsteen to not perform for the next ten days. The statement said:
"Following yesterday's postponement in Marseille due to vocal issues, further examination and consulting has led doctors to determine that Bruce should not perform for the next ten days. With this in mind, additional postponements are required for Airport Letnany in Prague (originally scheduled for May 28) and San Siro Stadium in Milan (originally scheduled for June 1 and 3)."
The statement added:
"New dates for these shows will be announced shortly. Those wishing a refund will be able to obtain it at their original point of purchase. Bruce is recuperating comfortably, and he and the E Street Band look forward to resuming their hugely successful European stadium tour on June 12 in Madrid at the magnificent Civitas Metropolitan."
Despite his recurring health issues, Bruce Springsteen has made it clear that he is not considering a farewell tour. The band's guitarist Steven Van Zandt, also confirmed the same, as per Billboard's August 26 article. He said:
“I don’t see the end anywhere in sight, to be honest, especially in Europe, where we’re bigger than we’ve ever been. I think we can play every summer for evermore, man.”
In other news, a documentary about Springsteen, titled Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen And The E Street Band, is set to be released on Hulu and Disney+ in October.
