On June 19, rapper and songwriter Kendrick Lamar performed at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California to celebrate Juneteenth through his much-anticipated The Pop Out – Ken & Friends concert. It was a live telecast on the Amazon Prime Video streaming platform.
In the credits, Kendrick Lamar mentioned his longtime business associate and friend Dave Free as one of the top producers and a creative director for the concert.
Fans of the Not Like Us rapper are now deeming it a fitting response to Drake’s accusations in the K-Dot diss track Family Matters. On it, the Canadian hip-hop star made shocking claims that Dave Free was allegedly the biological father of one of Kendrick’s children which he shares with fiancé Whitney Alford.
In the wake of K-Dot giving multiple credits to Dave Free, his fans are now hitting back at Drake for allegedly spewing lies in his song. Following are some of the comments from X (formerly Twitter).
“This is the nail in the coffin… Executive produced by Dave Free and his baby momma front row in the crowd… Bruh lied about everything,” a person wrote.
“Kendrick’s wife in attendance. Dave Free in the production credits. Now all Drake Stan’s can stop with the false narratives,” another person wrote.
While some netizens also pointed out the position of the name in the credits.
“Kendrick put Dave Free name first in the d**n credits. He’s sick,” a fan wrote.
“The fact that Dave Free helped direct and produce the show… solidifies it even more that n***as just be chatting,” another fan wrote.
“Whitney at concert with the kids. Dave Free executive produced The Pop Out concert. I think somebody lying smell somebody lying I don’t see no fire. Fabricating stories on the family front cause you heard Mr. Morale. Drake lied about everything and still got smoked,” a person wrote.
“Kendrick debunked just about all of Drake’s lies in one night. Wife and kids in the audience. City showed up and supported hella. YG was where? On stage. Dave Free all in the show credits. Like at this point, Drake should just go back to acting,” an individual wrote.
“Dave Free's first name in the credits & Whitney in the crowd. Yeah, Drake’s diss aged like f***ing milk,” a fan wrote.
Notably, Kendrick Lamar’s fiancé Whitney Alford was present at Wednesday’s concert along with their two children, daughter Uzi and son Enoch. However, it remains unknown whether Dave Free attended the show in person.
Drake's alleged claim about Dave Free and Kendrick Lamar’s family
As part of his ongoing feud with Kendrick Lamar, Drake released the diss track Family Matters on May 3, where he alleged that one of K-Dot’s kids with his high-school sweetheart and fiancé Whitney Alford was not his.
The Toronto rapper also went on to claim that allegedly the biological father was Kendrick’s business partner Dave Free, who is also the former co-president of TDE and the co-founder of PGLang. The lyrics of the song read:.
“I heard that one of ‘em little kids might be Dave Free/ Don't make it Dave Free’s/ ‘Cause if your GM is your BM secret BD/ Then this is all makin’ f***in’ sense to me.”
Two days later, on May 5, Drizzy unveiled another diss track titled The Heart Part 6 where he continued with his accusations. Here, he took aim at Whitney Alford and her alleged infidelity with Dave Free. The lyrics read:
"What about the bones we dug up in that excavation/ And why isn't Whitney denying all of the allegations/ Why is she following Dave Free and not Mr. Morale.”
For the unaware, Mr. Morale refers to Kendrick Lamar himself and is a play on his 2022 hit double album Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers. Drake further continued to take a dig at Kendrick Lamar’s personal life in his diss track. He rapped:
“You haven’t seen the kids in six months, the distance is wild/ Dave leaving heart emojis under pics of the child.”
Allegedly insinuating that Kendrick Lamar is living a separate life, away from his children and partner, and “breeding resentment,” against his business partner.
