Guatemalan DJ, Gordo, and Drake recently released two tracks- Sideways and Healing. The tracks reportedly are parts of Gordo's debut album, Diamante. The DJ released 16 songs from the album, featuring several celebrities like Nicki Nicole, Maluma, T-Pain, and Afshin Momadi.
The aforementioned two songs by the Canadian rapper attracted massive attention because of the emotional lyrics, which seemingly talk about losing a former lover. In the opening part of Sideways, Drake sang about the pain he felt when an ex-lover couldn't reciprocate her love towards him.
The lyrics go as:
"But you were never my girl/It was just my turn. Then it turned sideways/It was just my turn/It's the truth, I lied/If I drop her name right now, she'll be too high..."
Healing is the last song of the album, and in it, the rapper could be heard singing about healing from a heartbreak. In it, the rapper sings,
"I came out tonight and I want to go home/I rather spend some time on my own/I can't stand small talk, nobody is real/I look OK, but that's not how I feel."
Gordo featured several artists on his latest album, including Canadian rapper Drake
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE in July 2024, DJ Gordo shared about his friendship with Drake and also about how he helped the DJ with his new album Diamante. This wasn't the first project where the rapper and Gordo teamed up.
His 2022 dance album Honestly, Nevermind also witnessed Drake's involvement. Gordo further mentioned that people who enjoyed the dance album were more likely to love Diamante.
While talking to PEOPLE, the DJ further gave an overview of their friendship, and that it dated a long time back. He continued,
"I was always friends with people who were his tour managers or something connected to him, so I would see him every once in a while, take a little photo here and there, but just like that. Then we connected and slowly, over time, we became really close."
He added that there was another song titled Target in the album, which was expected to include Drake. However, T-Pain was finalized for it.
On July 25, Gordo shared an old photo of him and Drake on X and wrote that if the picture got 25k likes, he would add another song to the album, which included collaboration with the Family Matters rapper.
He kept his word and introduced Healing on the tracklist of the album, which then became the 16th song of the project. Meanwhile, Drake too took to Instagram to promote the new album. In one of the stories, he posted a photo of DJ Gordo and wrote,
"New Gordo album out now... Can't hang out for at least a year, this guy is gonna be too gassed @gordoszn."
In another story, he shared a screengrab of the tracklist of the latest album.
