Rappers Cam'ron and Mase and boxer Shakur Stevenson have been beefing since the latter's fight against Artem Harutyunyan over the weekend. While the 27-year-old had an easy victory on Saturday, July 6, 2024, several individuals criticized him for his defensive style and called him a "boring fighter."
On Monday's episode of their podcast It Is What It Is, the two musicians-turned-sports commentators slammed the boxer. Mase called Shakur a "cocky fighter" who would lose if he were to fight Gervonta Davis (another professional boxer).
Shakur took offense at the comments and took to his X account to slam the two personalities. This prompted a back-and-forth between them as they took aim at each other's careers.
"U know what irks me when a n*gga talk boxing but ain’t never glove up"- Shakur Stevenson claps back at Cam'ron and Mase
Newark native Shakur Stevenson is known for his defensive style of boxing. In his match against Artem Harutyunyan held at Prudential Center in New Jersey, his elusive approach was not a hit with viewers. (Stevenson won in a unanimous decision).
Following the match, Cam'ron and Mase critiqued the same on their talk show, expressing their disappointment with the boxer. Referencing his defensive style, Mase remarked that he didn't want to see Shakur fight, adding:
"No disrespect to Newark, but I don’t wanna see Shakur fight nobody. For him to be hanging out with Terence Crawford and Andre Ward, there is absolutely no way that he’s fighting the way he’s fighting."
Cam'ron, who shared brutal comments, seconded his co-host's opinion, stating:
"I got home, seen the 11th, 12th round and saw n*ggas walking out. Them n*ggas was booing! I’m like, ‘Yo, you’re at home (in Newark) and they’re booing you."
When word of the two rappers' remarks reached Stevenson, the 27-year-old responded with a tweet. He called Mase's rap career a failure, stating that he was "more famous for his podcast then his failed career."
He then went on to talk about how neither of the rappers had set foot in a boxing ring before and added:
"U know what irks me when a n*gga talk boxing but ain’t never glove up.. This fat mf Mase and Big teething Camron need to STFU them n*ggas a never step foot in a boxing ring, We got all types of entertainers gloving up tell these niggas glove up or shut up."
Shakur then took aim at the It Is What It Is podcast, calling it "boring," adding that if he appeared on their talk show, he would "cook them on they own platform."
Cam and Murda soon responded as they took to the podcast's official Instagram account to call out the boxer. Referencing his X post about the Florida rapper's "failed career," they wrote:
"HEY #SHAKURSTEVENSON 3 MONTHS AFTER YOU WERE BORN #MURDA DROPPED HIS FIRST ALBUM & SOLD 5 MILLION COPIES & WENT QUADRUPLE PLATINUM BEFORE SOCIAL MEDIA #FACTS WE JUST CALLING IT HOW EVERYBODY ELSE SEE IT."
They went on to share a video taken during Saturday's match, which featured several members of the audience leaving before the last round. Mase and Cam'ron claimed they were doing the podcast because they were making more money than Shakur. The rappers also shared a skit showing the co-hosts and Stat Baby falling asleep during Stevenson's fight.
Shakur then went back to X and called the two rappers "old." Murda and Cam responded by sharing a clip of boxer Rolly Romero saying Stevenson doesn't get pay-per-view fights because he puts anybody outside the ring to sleep, calling him the "most boring fighter in the history of boxing."
Shakur Stevenson has not responded to this but continued his tirade on X as he said:
"I wonder how much they paid them f*ck n*ggas to leave at the same exact time so ESPN could show it on camera."
In a final response to the boxer, It Is What It Is posted a video by Instagram user @iamrayyyrayyy, explaining that no one was paid to leave. He also asked Shakur to "leave Cam and Mase alone."
Neither party has commented further on social media as of this writing.
