A recent video of rapper A$AP Rocky went viral, showing him pushing past several photographers. This incident occurred on Friday, January 24, during his opening remarks at his alleged assault trial in a Los Angeles court.
This trial comes four years after A$AP Rocky was charged with shooting a former acquaintance in 2021 near a hotel in Hollywood. He declined a plea deal from the prosecution that would have sentenced him to 180 days in prison. If convicted of two felony charges of assault with a semiautomatic handgun, he faces the possibility of years in prison.
Once the video was uploaded by user @KollegeKidd on X, it quickly gained traction, amassing 36.2K views. Netizens flooded the comment section to express their opinions. One user noted that he has allegedly been "adding more fuel to the fire.”
“Rocky's gotta play it cool, can't be adding more fuel to the fire,” wrote one user.
Others reacted similarly, with one stating that it was “shocking,” while another suggested that he might find himself in a position he would later regret.
“Shocking! How will this affect his trial outcome?” asked another user.
“Wait bro was headed to court for assault charges and assaulted someone on the way?!?!” sarcastically asked another one.
“He’s going to find himself in a position he’s going to regret if he not careful,” wrote another user.
Meanwhile, many netizens defended him, with one stating that it was the photographers’ fault and that they shouldn’t have been in his way.
“They shouldn’t of been in the way,” one user defended the rapper.
“He was swimming his way out of the swarm of photographers,” another one said.
“This is how misinformation gets spread, who did he assault? That man’s camera was in his way so he moved it,” wrote another one.
A$AP Rocky is now facing shooting allegations
Rapper A$AP Rocky started his assault trial in Los Angeles on Friday. If found guilty of two felony assault charges related to the 2021 incident near a Hollywood hotel, he could face up to 24 years in prison.
On the day of the trial, a jury consisting of five men and seven women was seated. In their opening statements, prosecutors characterized the rapper as the aggressor, alleging that he planned to shoot his childhood friend after an assault.
A$AP Rocky has denied the accusations and entered a not guilty plea. Additionally, as reported by the BBC on January 25, Terell Ephron, the rapper's childhood friend, testified last year that A$AP Rocky allegedly opened fire on him in Hollywood, with the bullets grazing his knuckles.
Ephron claimed that after returning to New York by plane, he sought medical attention at a hospital. According to authorities, the shooting occurred on November 6, 2021, following a "heated discussion" between Terell Ephron and the rapper.
Deputy District Attorney Paul Przelomiec began the trial with a thorough presentation of video evidence, informing the jury:
"What will become almost instantly clear is that this is not a complicated case.”
In the first video shown to the jury, two men were seen getting into a fight, followed by two others stepping in to break it up. Later that evening, additional footage showed two gunshots fired amid a fight involving the same group.
When authorities surveyed the location after the 2021 shooting, they did not find any shell casings. However, Ephron claimed that he later returned to the scene and collected two shell casings that he said he discovered there.
Two days later, when he reported the incident, he brought the shell casings with him. Ephron is expected to testify as a key witness during the three-week-long trial.
Meanwhile, neither A$AP Rocky nor his lawyers have commented on these developments.
