Stayve Jerome Thomas, who goes by the stage name Slim Thug, claims he has profited from mixtapes more than any other artist. On Saturday, July 20, 2024, The Art of Dialogue on X caught hold of a video by the rapper, where he asserted, "No n**ga made more money off mixtapes than Slim."

"At a young age, as a teenager, when I first met Michael ‘5000’ Watts (Swishahouse co-founder), he showed me that I can do something that I love to do. I’ve learned self-value from day one. No n**ga underground made more money on mixtapes than me independently.
"Not them n**gas [DJ] Drama and them either. They was giving they s**t away. Our wholesale price was eight [dollars]. No n**ga was getting more money than us who did it that long. No n**ga did it as long as Slim — underground, getting paid off mixtapes."

Not everyone agreed with the rapper's claims, with one saying:

Many agreed with Thomas' claims, stating that his "hustle game (was) on another level." Some Houston natives added that the rapper is really big in their state. Here are some comments seen on X:

"Honestly not surprised, his hustle game is on another level #BossMoves #MixtapeKing #MoneyTalk," Antonio K. Ross Jr. chimed in.
"These are facts," one user wrote.
"As a Houstonian ive followed Slim since 98. People dont understand how big this dude actually is. In Texas u can tour all year and never hit the same city twice. Slim was selling cds 20 a pop while also doing hand to hand. I bet Slim have more $ than most famous artist," another reasoned.

Others pointed out that rappers like 50 Cent, Lil Wayne, and Gucci Mane could beat his score.

"50 Cent would definitely disagree with this. N**gas be acting like they forgot how 50 got here," @JerzDaReaper added.
"I can’t dispute that but saying than anyone else is stretching it. I think Gucci Man and Lil Wayne were the mixtape kings in their prime," one fan remarked.
"E-40, Too Short, and Master P beats him easily," another commented.

"It’s about being a hard worker every day and grinding every day"— Slim Thug remarked $1 million is not enough to make a broke person happy

This is not the first time Slim Thug has spoken about his hustling skills. Last month, the rapper took to his Instagram to assert that a million dollars will not change their lives.

"If you broke, stop saying, ‘If I had a million dollars, I’d be good for the rest of my life.’ No you won’t. If you broke, you got a million dollars worth of sh*t you need to buy right now."

The singer explained that they would need to buy a house, a car, and other necessities and even pay taxes. Slim Thug added that many people would end up spending the money on celebrations or at the mall and being broke again.

"So stop saying, ‘If I had a million dollars’ — it ain’t about a number. It’s about being a hard worker every day and grinding every day, and keep going and keep going. It’s a lifestyle, it’s not a destination," he said.

Thomas began his rap career with the Houston-based hip-hop collective Swishahouse. However, they amicably parted ways after Slim Thug realized he could make more money by distributing his mixtapes.

In 2001, he founded his independent label, Boss Hogg Outlawz. Throughout his career, Slim Thug has released 14 studio albums, 20 mixtapes, and ten collaborative albums.

In a 2016 interview with Forbes, Slim admitted to signing with Interscope Records but soon returned to being an independent. He explained that he only signed to take advantage of the label's global presence and build his fan base.

Slim Thug has not reacted to netizens criticizing his claims.
