On May 17, 2024, months after Cassie Ventura's lawsuit against Diddy Combs was settled, CNN released a video of security footage where Combs appeared to be assaulting and beating Cassie in a hotel lobby. The incident caught on camera dates back to Match 5, 2016, and seemingly confirms some of the things the rapper was accused of in the lawsuit by his former girlfriend.
Ventura and Combs were together in a relationship between 2007 and 2018. The two attended movie premiers together and were seen together on numerous occasions during that period. In November 2023, she would go on to file a lawsuit against her former boyfriend, accusing him of s*xual assault and physical violence.
Amid the federal investigation into Diddy, the recently surfaced video of him beating Cassie has drawn strong reactions online.
Cassie's lawsuit alleged Diddy beat her at a hotel in 2016
The suit was filed on November 16, 2023, and was settled out of court on the very next day with details about the settlement remaining undisclosed. The initial complaint that Cassie's lawyers submitted to the authorities at the time consisted of numerous cases.
Among them is a case from 2016 where the lawsuit alleged that Ventura had punched Ventura in the face while he was inebriated. The complaint further accuses the rapper of following his girlfriend into the hallway when she tried to leave the Los Angeles hotel.
In the 2016 security footage, obtained by CNN, compiled from multiple camera angles from the hotel hallways, Diddy can be seen rushing from his room to chase down Cassie who was waiting for the elevator. Fitting the allegations in the lawsuit, he then proceeds to allegedly throw her to the ground and kick her.
The complaint also mentions that he "took glass vases in the hallway and threw them at her" while she was trying to escape. The video also allegedly shows that part of the lawsuit, with a specific camera angle capturing the moment the rapper sat down in a chair in the hallway and went on to throw the objects that were on the table.
Cassie ultimately did manage to escape, but according to the suit she had attempted to come back to apologize to Diddy. However, the hotel staff reportedly turned her away, and the court documents claim that the workers had insinuated watching the footage to determine that it was unsafe for her to be in the hotel.
As far as public reactions go, the security footage has seen widespread backlash against Diddy, with Ventura's attorney calling him out for "predatory" behavior. The lawsuit is, however, settled and readers should note that Diddy has denied all of these allegations in the past.
