American rapper and record producer Pras, also a member of Fugees, has recently blamed 49-year-old singer Lauryn Hill for the cancelation of the upcoming US tour dates. Hill and Fugees were expected to perform across Canada and the US for the North American leg of their tour. For the unversed, the tour's purpose was to promote Hill's 1998 debut album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.
Meanwhile, Pras has given his opinion on the abrupt cancelation of the shows. While talking to TMZ, the rapper spoke about Lauryn Hill and said,
"I saved her reputation for 20 years by not telling my side of the story. But oops… cat’s out the bag."
HotNewHipHop reported that at the time of publishing their article on August 9, the Fugees were still scheduled to continue their tour across the UK and Europe, covering several cities like London, Paris, and Stockholm. It has further been revealed that the cancelation had been done due to low ticket sales.
A number of netizens and fans had also reacted to the news of cancelation of the upcoming tour featuring Lauryn Hill. Many even claimed that such a cancelation wasn't new for the singer.
Pras claimed that Lauryn Hill's sudden performance cancelation had impacted his show as well
Pras had shared with TMZ that the rapper didn't say anything about Hill's behavior all these years, to save the singer's reputation. While talking to the outlet, the rapper further added that according to him, shows must go on as long as people buy tickets.
Variety reported that Lauryn had issued a statement after the tour's cancelation. She further blamed the media for publicizing her canceled shows of last year, which made less number of fans buy tickets.
According to Hill, while fans' attention was drawn to the canceled shows of 2023, they became reluctant to purchase the ones for the event, scheduled to happen on Friday, August 9, 2024.
Variety had further reported that as per Hill, her shows with the Fugees for the month of October, are still intact. In a post, Hill wrote,
"With difficulty the decision was made to pull down our upcoming North American tour dates. The shows in the UK and Europe ARE MOVING FORWARD as planned."
In the post uploaded three days ago on August 7, Hill shed light on an injury that she sustained last year, which prompted her to postpone some of her shows in 2023. The singer further added:
"The trust and faith I have in my intentions and my commitment to my art seem to have been overshadowed by this unfortunate portrayal."
Several fans had shared screenshots where they received the refunds from Live Nation, post the tour cancelation. While Hill blamed the media for the eventual show cancelation, Pras believed that it was Hill who should take responsibility. Hill has not only earned a bad reputation for canceling shows abruptly, but also for starting her shows late.
The Hill/Fugees tour was expected to cover several cities across the United States, including Philadelphia, Houston, Atlanta, and New York.
