The latest social media activity involving Drake and Chanel Thierry has sparked a wave of intrigue and speculation among fans and music enthusiasts.
On June 27, 2024, keen observers among netizens noticed Drake is now following Chanel Thierry, the estranged wife of DJ Mustard, on Instagram. DJ Mustard is renowned for producing Kendrick Lamar's chart-topping diss track Not Like Us. Therefore, netizens on X speculate that the beef between the two hip-hop titans has not rested. As one stated,
Some suggested that they had been waiting for Drizzy to respond in any way possible.
"Ngl, I have been waiting for something like this," one wrote.
Many of Drake's supporters contend his actions should not solely prompt ethical debates. Some expressed concern that this development could be disturbing for Kendrick Lamar.
"So ethics and rules are only pushed when Drake does something???," one wrote.
"A disturbing update for Lamar," another suggested.
"Drake busy playin checkmate while they busy milking they not like us 🤣," third wrote.
Meanwhile, some suggested that they are unbothered by the news, noting that the Canadian rapper has a history of similar actions.
"Who's outraged 😭😭 drake has a pattern of this we not surprised," one wrote.
"Why would Kendrick Lamar fans care about that? 😭," second wrote.
"Mustard was online begging someone to get with her so she could leave him alone. I don't think he cares," third wrote.
Drake's sudden online connection with Chanel Thierry, amidst ongoing personal and professional dynamics, has generated significant interest among fans and divided the internet. However, neither DJ Mustard, Chanel Thierry, nor Drake have commented or acknowledged this recent development.
The tension is because of the Drake-Lamar prolonged beef, which revived in March 2024 after the release of Like That by Future, Metro Boomin, and Lamar.
Following that, until May 2024, the duo targeted each other with many diss tracks. The last track was The Heart Pt. 6, by Drake, on May 5, 2024, and since then, there have been no new tracks, however in a recent concert, The Pop Out: Ken & Friends, Lamar performed Not Like Us, 5 times with many celebrities in attendance.
Why did Drake following Chanel Thierry garner attention on social media?
The interaction between Drake and Chanel Thierry on Instagram garnered significant attention primarily because DJ Mustard produced Kendrick Lamar's Not Like Us, a prominent diss track aimed at Drake and one of Lamar's major hits. However, DJ Mustard has denied having foreknowledge that Kendrick would select his beat for Not Like Us.
On June 19, 2024, in an interview with XXL Magazine, Mustard suggested that he was unaware that Lamar would pick his beat for Not Like Us. DJ stated he made that beat for his manager's birthday and sent three beats to Lamar.
"I made that beat on my manager's birthday [April 6]. I sent [Kendrick] maybe three [beats] that day. He just hearted it. I didn't hear it 'til [the song] came out."
DJ Mustard was seen wearing a Toronto Blue Jays cap during the Not Like Us music video shoot, and fans speculated it was a subtle jab at Drake. However, on June 25, 2024, during an interview with Big Boy, DJ denied and suggested that he was not trolling anyone.
"I wasn't trolling. I really wasn't trolling. I bought a lot of hats that I like. I bought an STL hat, an Angels hat, and a Braves hat. I put Faith of a Mustard Seed [the title of his new album] on all of them," DJ said.
He further revealed the cap represented the Jungles, in a South Los Angeles neighborhood where he grew up.
"I grew up in the Jungles, we all wear that hat. I mean, I wear the NY hat — that's Nip's hat, the neighborhoods," DJ added.
Chanel and Mustard got married in October 2020, and after two years of marriage, they filed for divorce in May 2022.
