On September 12, Livebitez, on Instagram, released two videos of Ray J talking to his kids and trying to tell them that he had not had a physical altercation with their mother, Princess Love. In the videos, Ray said he was recording the footage as documentation to show authorities that nothing happened between him and his estranged wife, and the pair just had a verbal disagreement.
Ray and Love's children, 6-year-old Melody and 4-year-old Epik, were also heard in the video, with the former distraughtly crying and repeatedly yelling, "That's my brother." In the first video, Ray can be heard talking to his son, saying:
“I just want to make sure. Are you good? Dada never did nothing to nobody. Mama never did nothing to me, dada never did nothing to mama, right? Everything is safe? Have dada put hand on mama or mama put hands on dada? No, right? Okay, so there’s no reason to call the police, right? We just making a movie. We’re just playing. Okay?”
He reassured the children, adding that he and Love loved each other. One of the kids asked him to hug their mother, and he replied that Love would not appreciate a hug from him now. He said he would take the two kids to his house because he didn't want the police to come and asked Epik to tell Love about their plan.
The video was met with outrage, with many blaming Ray J for "coaching" his kids on what to say to people.
Many accused the singer of tricking and manipulating his children about what happened between him and Princess Love.
Others argued that exposing kids to such things at a young age could affect them when they become adults.
Ray J and Princess Love filed for divorce in February 2024
Ray J and Princess announced they had filed for divorce in February 2024. This is the fourth time they have filed for divorce since they tied the knot in August 2016. According to Hot New Hip Hop, the couple met at a New Year's Eve Party. Love also appeared as Ray J's girlfriend at Love & Hip Hop Hollywood in 2014.
Love took to Instagram to announce their divorce in February, adding that she and Ray will co-parent their two children, Melody and Epik.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of our decision to divorce. After much reflection, discussion, and counseling, we have come to the difficult realization that our paths have diverged, and it is in the best interest of both of us to part ways,” she wrote.
Their relationship faced its first fracture in 2019 after the singer reportedly left Love and their daughter "stranded" in Vegas, leading to Love saying she planned to file for divorce. The couple soon reconciled; however, Love filed for divorce in May 2020, five months after their son was born.
The couple dismissed the filing two months later. In September 2020, Ray J filed for divorce, which was called off in March 2021. He filed for divorce again in October 2021 but was granted a dismissal in March 2023.
In other news, Ray was recently involved in an altercation with Zeus Network CEO Lemuel Plummer at a BET Awards afterparty on June 30, 2024. Video footage from the party showed Ray attempting to punch Plummer before being restrained by security.
The singer released a statement addressing the situation on social media, adding that he felt "suicidal and uncomfortable with the perception of reality."
