Tennis star Naomi Osaka has confirmed her split from rapper Cordae, marking the end of their relationship that began in 2019. The four-time Grand Slam champion shared the news on January 6, 2025, via Instagram Stories, stating:

"Hi everyone, just wanted to say that Cordae and I are no longer in a relationship. No bad blood at all, he's a great person and an awesome dad."

The announcement follows months of speculation fueled by cryptic social media posts from Naomi Osaka. Despite their breakup, the pair continues to co-parent their 17-month-old daughter, Shai.

Cordae, born Cordae Dunston on August 26, 1997, in Raleigh, North Carolina, has an estimated net worth of $2 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. The rapper's career took off in 2018 when he joined the hip-hop collective YBN. His viral remixes of Eminem's My Name Is, and J. Cole's 1985 showcased his lyrical prowess, earning him recognition in the rap community.

Cordae and Naomi Osaka's relationship and his musical journey

In 2019, Cordae released his debut studio album, The Lost Boy, which featured collaborations with artists like Chance the Rapper and Pusha T. The album was a critical and commercial success, peaking at number 13 on the Billboard 200 and earning Grammy nominations for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Song (for Bad Idea).

His sophomore album, From a Bird's Eye View, released in 2022, also debuted at number 13 on the Billboard 200, cementing his reputation as a rising star in the music industry.

Cordae was raised in Suitland, Maryland, where he developed an early passion for hip-hop, inspired by legends like Nas, Eminem, and Jay-Z. He began writing raps at the age of 15 and briefly attended Towson University before dropping out in 2018 to pursue music full-time.

Moving to Los Angeles, he became a prominent member of YBN, contributing to the group's 2018 mixtape YBN: The Mixtape. However, YBN disbanded in 2020, leading Cordae to focus on his solo career.

Outside of albums, Cordae has collaborated with notable artists such as Roddy Ricch, Stevie Wonder, and Anderson .Paak. In 2023, he released the single Two Tens, featuring Anderson .Paak, and appeared on NF's track Careful.

Cordae and Naomi Osaka began dating in 2019 after meeting at a Los Angeles Clippers game. Their relationship remained private for nearly a year before they went public. Reflecting on their decision to keep their romance low-profile, Cordae told GQ in 2021:

"A relationship is really a sacred thing. Once you let outside influences get into it, it becomes less sacred."

The couple welcomed their daughter, Shai, in July 2023. Despite their split, Naomi Osaka expressed gratitude for their time together.

Cordae is also known for his activism, particularly within the Black Lives Matter movement. He participated in a 2016 protest and was arrested in Louisville, Kentucky, in 2020 while advocating for justice for Breonna Taylor.

As of now, the rapper continues to focus on his music, with recent collaborations hinting at future projects. On the other hand, Naomi Osaka has teased a "great year" ahead on a recent Instagram carousel, signaling new ventures in her professional and personal life.
