American singer and guitarist, Courtney Love recently shared her thoughts on Taylor Swift's music. In an interview with The Standard on November 27, Love addressed the parallels between their experiences as musicians navigating high-profile relationships and public scrutiny.

When asked about the widespread tendency to dissect Swift's lyrics for insights into her personal life, Love dismissed the practice. "Frankly, I don’t understand why people do this with Swift either — who cares if she dates high-profile people?" she remarked, emphasizing that many musicians, regardless of gender, write about relationships. Drawing comparisons to legendary artists, she noted:

"All musicians write about broken hearts: Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan (though sideways), Bowie…."

She further stated:

"While I may not love Swift musically, her lyrics when she’s angry resonate with me — I find it middlebrow and boring to overanalyze them," she stated.

Despite expressing some affinity with Swift's lyrical themes, Love offered a candid critique of her musical style.

In the same interview, Courtney Love praised rapper Kendrick Lamar, calling him "the best hip-hop writer ever" and admiring his lyrical depth and flow. She even posed questions for Lamar, speculating on his influences, including Leonard Cohen, David Bowie, and Bob Dylan.

Courtney Love expressed a desire to collaborate with Lamar and acknowledged her admiration for other contemporary artists like Lorde, Stormzy, and Doja Cat.

Her evolving relationship with Lana Del Rey was also a topic of discussion. Previously critical of Del Rey's work, Love seems open to collaboration, expressing interest in co-writing a song. "I’d love to co-write a song with Lana Del Rey," she shared, envisioning a creative dynamic that combines their unique styles.

However, she criticized modern slang, urging younger fans to say "writing a song together" instead of "collab."

Courtney Love also expressed her appreciation for Billy Corgan's participation in a charity raffle for her handwritten "Violet" lyrics. Reflecting on their relationship, Love remarked:

"I love Corgan; he’s welcome to win! I love that guy, even when we beefed in public, I never didn’t love him."

She praised Corgan’s involvement in supporting a cause close to her heart: an auction benefiting Warren Ellis’ animal sanctuary. Love highlighted Corgan's lifelong passion for animals, recalling his appearance on the cover of PAWS magazine in the 1990s.

Her recent personal loss added emotional depth to the cause. Courtney Love's dog, Bell, passed away suddenly at just five years old, an experience she described as "devastating". Despite the pain, Love shared that her Buddhist practice helps her find meaning in Bell’s short life, which she credits with healing and inspiring her.

Courtney Love also revealed details about her upcoming solo album, her first in over a decade. She has collaborated with notable figures like former R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe and Echo & the Bunnymen guitarist Will Sergeant. Reflecting on her partnership with Stipe, she remarked on the emotional impact of hearing his voice again, describing it as "gorgeous."

The project also includes a recent collaboration with 070 Shake on a cover of Tim Buckley's Song to the Siren, marking her first studio work with former Hole bandmate Melissa Auf der Maur in 24 years.

As for Lana Del Rey, she is preparing for the release of her 10th studio album, The Right Person Will Stay, scheduled for May 21.
