Late rapper Tupac Shakur's family hired an investigator to find a potential link between Tupac's murder and Sean "Diddy" Combs. Alex Spiro, a high-profile attorney from New York, confirmed with Court TV he was looking into the matter on Friday, October 4, 2024.
The rapper was gunned down while driving in Las Vegas in 1996, and his murder was unsolved until September 2023. Former gang leader Duane "Keffe D" Davis was arrested and charged with the murder in September 2023. It is to be noted that Davis previously claimed Combs was involved in its planning.
As news of the development spread, internet users were quick to react. They took to X to discuss the same, with many claiming that Diddy's involvement in the murder was a known fact. Another user added that it was "crazy" to look into now.
Netizens took to X to respond to @PopCrave's post about the investigator's involvement. Many said that it was a "juicy conspiracy theory," with some stating that it was "crazy and historical" to be alive at a time like this.
"being alive for this is crazy and historical imo," one wrote.
"Tiktok is the reason for this is crazy," another commented.
"sounds like a juicy conspiracy theory to dive into," @blesskatty stated.
Others opined that it would be interesting to see where the investigation would lead.
"28 years later and we might find out who actually was responsible for tupac’s death," a fan remarked.
"As they should and Biggie's family should do the same," @GaiaOsiris suggested.
"This could add a whole new layer to the Tupac case. It’s intriguing to see where this investigation will lead," another wrote.
Duane "Keffe D" Davis claimed Diddy offered him $1 million for a hit on Tupac
Duane "Keffe D" Davis, who is facing one count of murder with a deadly weapon, previously claimed Diddy offered him $1 million for a hit on Tupac. An October 2024 report by the Tribune stated that a detective testified against a grand jury.
The testimony also indicated that Suge Knight Jr., told people Diddy was "responsible, if not directly, indirectly" for the California Love hitmaker's murder." It is worth noting that Suge was also injured in the shooting.
Duane "Keffe D" Davis' trial begins in March 2025.
Diddy, for his part, has denied any involvement in the murder. In March 2008, The Los Angeles Times author Chuck Philips wrote an article titled, An Attack on Tupac Shakur Launched a Hip-Hop War (now deleted).
The report suggested that Combs and his associates (including the late rapper Notorious B.I.G.) were responsible for the robbery and shooting of 2Pac at a New York recording studio. It further alleged that the incident sparked a feud between the East and West Coast rappers that eventually led to the deaths of Shakur and B.I.G.
At the time, per Billboard, Diddy released a statement, saying the story was a lie. He added that he or B.I.G. had no involvement or knowledge of the attack "before, during, or after it happened."
Since 2Pac's death, rappers like Eminem have alleged the rapper's connection to the shooting. In his recent collab with JID titled Fuel, he rapped:
"Notorious B.I.G.’s death was the domino effects of Tupac’s murder, like facial tissue, who’s clock should I clean next? Puff’s? ‘Til he’s in police handcuffs, guilty, will he step up?"
In his 2018 track Killshot, Eminem said:
"Kells, the day you put out a hit’s the day Diddy admits that he put the hit out that got Pac killed."
In September 2024, federal officers arrested Sean Combs and charged him with racketeering, s*x trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. Since then, 120 new victims, including minors, have sued the rapper accusing him of abuse and assault.
Diddy has denied all allegations levied against him. If convicted, the music mogul is facing 15 years to life imprisonment.
