DaBaby, or Jonathan Lyndale Kirk, has finally settled his 2021 lawsuit filed by Gary Pagar, the owner of the rapper’s Hollywood Hills rental house. In the complaint, the plaintiff, Gary Pagar, mentioned that the rapper shot a video inside the mansion without his permission. As per the lawsuit, the instance took place in 2020, and Gary even mentioned that DaBaby hit him during the spat due to the fiasco.
As per Billboard, the lawsuit mentioned that as Gary Pagar confronted the rapper for shooting a video inside the home without his permission, the latter “beat, punched, spat on, threatened, shoved, and robbed” him. The complaint filed mentions that Gary had given the house to DaBaby on rent for “a private vacation with no more than nine people.”
The house owner had clearly specified in the rent agreement that there would be “no crowds, no parties, and no filming.”
The complaint mentioned:
“In fact, the purpose of the defendants’ trip to Los Angeles was to gather 40 people and a commercial film crew at Mr. Pagar’s house to film a music video. When Mr. Pagar asked them to stop, they beat and battered him, stole his phone by force so he couldn’t call the police, and threatened him. Then they vandalized his house and left, after stealing various valuable items.”
However, as per the court filing on September 25, 2024, the two parties, DaBaby and Gary Pagar, have reached a “global settlement,” however, the terms and clauses of the same remain undisclosed.
DaBaby claimed that Pagar used racial slurs during their encounter in February 2020: More details explored
DaBaby has finally settled his years-old dispute with his former landlord, Pagar, as the owner of the house claimed that the rapper did not adhere to the rules stated by him in the rent agreement. Furthermore, as Pagar mentioned that the rapper assaulted him physically, Kirk also made similar claims of Pagar using racial slurs against him.
During the court hearing in April 2022, Kirk produced video footage of the landlord using racial slurs during their spat, claiming that Pagar was unaware of the entire fiasco being caught on camera.
On the other hand, Pagar also claimed that the rapper broke a few security cameras of the house, and paid only a portion of the rent that was due. Furthermore, the case was finally settled after DaBaby pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor battery, during a court hearing that took place on July 11, 2024.
Rolling Stone reported that during this hearing, the rapper agreed to pay restitution and serve a year of probation. It is also worth noting that the video for the song Play U Lay was shot in the house, due to which the whole fiasco occurred.
This is not the only legal case against the rapper, as he was also allegedly involved in a 2018 shooting that took place in North Carolina that killed a 19-year-old. Furthermore, he was detained once in January 2020 in a robbery case, which was also settled after the rapper served a few days in the Miami-Dade County Jail.
