Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, 55, reportedly hired a divorce lawyer before publicly revealing that he had welcomed a child outside of his 21-year marriage to Jordyn Blum, according to a source close to People magazine.

The shocking news, announced on Tuesday, Sept. 10, comes after Grohl shared the arrival of a new baby daughter with an unidentified woman, adding that he is trying to mend his relationship with his wife and family.

On September 10th in an Instagram post, Dave Grohl announced that he has been blessed with a daughter born from an out-of-wedlock pregnancy. He stated his willingness to be there for the newborn child as a responsible father. In his statement, he said,

"I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness. We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together."

Dave Grohl and Jordyn Blum's long-standing relationship now in turmoil

Dave Grohl and Jordyn Blum, 48, have been married since 2003 and have three daughters: Violet, 18 years old, Harper, 15 years old, and Ophelia, 10 years old. Amid the news of Grohl’s infidelity, it appears that their eldest daughter Violet deactivated her Instagram account, though it is unclear exactly when this occurred. Violet has previously performed with her father during Foo Fighters concerts.

Grohl and Blum met in 2001 when she was still working with MTV as a producer. The two got engaged and tied the knot on August 2, 2003, with Grohl’s friends in attendance including; Krist Novoselic of Nirvana and music executive, Clive Davis.

Dave Grohl has often spoken publicly about his admiration for Jordyn Blum. In a 2003 interview with Teen People, Grohl shared that she was "pretty much" the first person he had ever been truly honest with.

He said, "Now I’ve got nothing to hide. When you’re not trying to be someone else, being honest is easy."

Their love became even stronger following the near-fatal overdose of the former band member of Grohl, Taylor Hawkins in 2001. This life-altering moment made Grohl change his mind and contact Blum finally knowing that he wanted to marry her and have a family.

In addition to being his partner, Blum also became Grohl’s collaborator, co-directing the Foo Fighters' 2002 music video for Walk a Line and appearing in the 2011 video for White Limo. She has also inspired several songs, including Statues and Burn Away.

Despite Dave Grohl's efforts to regain his family’s trust, it appears his marriage is in jeopardy. Sources told PEOPLE that Grohl retained a divorce lawyer before making the public announcement about his new daughter. So far, Blum has not made any public comments regarding the situation.

Their two older daughters, Violet and Harper, have reportedly deactivated their social media accounts in response to the news, though the exact timing remains unknown.

In a performance at the Glastonbury Festival last year, Dave Grohl brought Violet onstage to perform a song from the Foo Fighters’ album But Here We Are. He introduced her to the crowd by saying, "My favorite singer in the world," before the duo performed Show Me How a song dedicated to Grohl’s mother.
