Popa track from Ice Spice is featured on her debut studio album, Y2K!

Popa fuses elements of R&B and hip-hop. It was released on July 26, 2024, as part of Ice Spice's Y2K! album. Ice Spice, UpMadeIt, Synthetic, and RIOTUSA are credited as writers on the track.

The song’s lyrics are confident and bold as the 24-year-old rapper hypes herself up and talks down on naysayers. The first verse reads:

"Skin the color coca, put his nose in (Nose in)/ Told him that I love him, I was trollin' (Trollin')/ They ain't want me to win, I was chosen (Chosen)

Popa’s music video also embraces the lyrics’ themes as Ice Spice can be seen dancing in a strip club and showcasing a carefree attitude.

The rapper's Y2K! album has faced varying levels of criticism but she has let them roll off her back, choosing to stay focused on her Y2K! World Tour and preparations for the next album.

In an interview with Billboard, published on August 2, 2024, Ice Spice discussed the pressure that came with Y2K’s release and how she dealt with it:

“I think people try to put that pressure on me just because I have been so successful. I don’t really put too much weight into it. Of course, I appreciate it and I prefer it, but it’s not a make-or-break for me. I’m just happy with the album I made.”

On her plans for her next album, the Bronx-born rapper said:

"I am definitely so ready to start another album. So that’s great. I know my label is gonna be really excited to hear that. I don’t wanna start teasing the next album, we in Y2K!"

The Grammy nominated star's rise to fame has been a meteoric one. Her first taste of fame came from the Buss It Down challenge on TikTok in 2021. Before the release of her debut studio album Y2K! in 2024, the rapper had already released four Billboard Hot 100 charting singles.

Ice Spice's popularity and consecutive hit songs earned her collaborations with industry juggernauts like Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj, her first Met Gala appearance, and a Super Bowl commercial.

With back-to-back hit tracks, the rapper has established herself as one to look out for in the music industry.

Ice Spice's Y2K! tour began in July 2024 at the Roskilde Festival in Washington DC. It will continue in October 2024 and will run through Dublin, UK, France, Germany, and Sweden before its conclusion in Norway in November 2024.
