On Saturday, August 10, English pop icon Adele halted her concert in Munich and talked to fans about a viral Olympic breakdance performance that has sent the entire internet into a frenzy.
Australian breakdancer Rachael Gunn (aka Raygun) recently became the subject of intense media and online scrutiny after her 'kangaroo' routine went viral. The judges didn't endorse the 36-year-old's performance, and she failed to score a single point at the inaugural women's breaking competition at the Olympics.
Adele praised the "breakdancing lady" and raved about the fact that breakdancing has been introduced as an event at the coveted tournament.
"I am not saying anything, but I think it's the best thing that has happened at the Olympics for the entire time," Adele said. “Did anyone see the breakdancing lady? Now I didn't even know breakdancing was an Olympic sport these days. That is f***ing fantastic. I really really do."
Adele commented that she was unsure if the entire act was a joke. She said she and her friends have been talking about the performance.
"I can't work out if it was a joke but either way it has made me very very happy and me and my friends have been s***ing ourselves laughing for nearly 24 hours," declared the 16-time Grammy winner.
She asked fans if they had seen the viral performance and even urged those who hadn't seen it to Google it. The singer added that it was her favorite thing that happened in the 2024 Olympics.
Meanwhile, Rachael Gunn has kept low since the performance and has not responded to any of the incessant trolls and discussions. However, the university lecturer with a PhD in cultural studies did make a statement on social media, stating:
"What I wanted to do was come out here and do something new and different and creative — that's my strength, my creativity."
Gunn said she couldn't beat her competitors with her "power moves" and decided to get creative. The 36-year-old decided to do something completely different because "how many chances do you get that in a lifetime to do that on an international stage?"
"I was always the underdog and wanted to make my mark in a different way," commented the Olympic contestant.
Adele finally confirmed her engagement with Rich Paul at the Munich concert
Adele's string of concerts in Munich are memorable for more reasons than one. In a concert on August 9, the British singer confirmed her engagement with sports agent Rich Paul. The engagement rumors were afloat for a long time, but the Grammy winner confirmed everything when a fan proposed to her during the concert.
According to a report by PEOPLE, Adele replied by waving her left hand and shouting:
"I can't marry you, I'm already getting married!"
The dating rumors first started coming in 2021 when the two were spotted watching an NBA Finals game together. In an interview with Vogue in October 2021, Adele recalled her first interaction with Paul.
“I was a bit drunk. I said, ‘Do you want to sign me? I’m an athlete now. He was dancing. All the other guys were just sitting around. He was just dancing away,” recalled the singer.
Word about their engagement started floating on social media when Adele sported a huge diamond ring at the 2022 BRIT Awards. When asked about it at the Graham Norton Show, she joked about the rumors but never confirmed anything.
