Did Rod Wave drop his album? Rapper teases Drake collaboration on new song leaving fans wanting more

On September 14, 2024, American rapper Rod Wave surprised his fans by teasing a collaboration with Drake on a new song via his Instagram Story, tagging Drizzy with a goat x turtle emoji.

The NFR podcast X (formerly Twitter) account posted the same hinting at the song being called "Best Friend" garnering a lot of traction from fans of both the rappers.

While Rod Wave has hinted several times that he would be dropping his new album soon, he hasn't released the album or any of its songs yet. The rapper also took to Instagram on September 14, 2024, to post a snippet of a music video with the caption:

"tonight #album CountDown🐢🏴‍☠️🔥🔥🔥"

The news of a collaboration between Rod and Drake led to internet users expressing their opinions on the same via X wherein one of the X users expressed excitement and tweeted:

"rod wave got me refreshing my Apple Music like a dummy"
"Rod Wave drop the album dawg" another X user tweeted.
"THEY COULDNT STOP MY GOAT DRAKE OMG THIS IS HEAT" one person said.
"Rod Wave and Drake could do a whole EP together fr" another X user said.
"can't wait to vibe to it!" another X user commented.

"But ima give it ta y’all": Rod Wave mentioned in his Instagram Story teasing new music

Rod's last release was his fifth studio album called Nostalgia which was released on September 15, 2023, and featured collaborations with Sadie Jean, Wet, and 21 Savage.

While the Long Journey rapper hasn't announced exactly when he could be dropping new music, Rod took to Instagram in June 2024 to hint at a new album. On June 19, 2024, Rod Wave mentioned on his Instagram story:

"This f**kin project hurt so bad bra. But ima give it ta y’all.”

In addition to hinting at a new album, the rapper's Instagram story also stated that he would be dropping his tour dates and new merchandise.

While the Checkmate rapper has announced his collaboration with Drake recently, he had already expressed his desire to collaborate with Drizzy during the Million Dollaz Worth of Game interview on September 10, 2023.

During his appearance on the interview series, the host, Wallo asked Rod about his dream collaboration. Responding to the question, the Street Runner rapper stated:

“I really f**k with that boy, Drake, man. I f**k with that boy. I’ve been watching that boy for a longa** time. I know bro busy, super busy though, feel me?”

Rod also stated that it was crazy that Wallo asked him who he wanted to make a song with, given he wasn't "pressed about that s**t" but that there are some people he wants to meet. The rapper hinted at wanting to attend Drake's concert, shake his hand, and let him know that he rocks with the One Dance rapper's music.


In addition to giving fans a preview of his collaboration with Drake on his upcoming, unreleased album, Rod Wave took to Instagram on September 4, 2024, to announce the Last Lap Tour.

The rapper's tour is set to begin on October 19, 2024, from Phoenix and will end on December 18, 2024, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The rapper's caption along with the announcement mentioned having "special guests," while Moneybagg Yo, Toosii, Lil Poppa, Dess Dior, and Eelmatic were tagged, hinting that they would be joining him.
