New court documents revealed that Sean "Diddy" Combs allegedly contacted Kalenna Harper 128 times and called her over 50 times in a span of four days after Dawn Richard sued him for s*xual and verbal abuse on September 10, 2024. Combs, Harper, and Richard were part of the musical trio Diddy-Dirty Money, with one studio album, two mixtapes, and various singles to their credit.
Richard's suit was filed days before the Bad Boy Records founder was arrested for "racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, and transportation to engage in prostitution" on September 16.
Prosecutors argued against granting the rapper bail during Tuesday's arraignment hearing in a New York court. They referenced the 128 calls and texts Diddy allegedly made to Harper following Richard's lawsuit.
The prosecution claimed that Diddy was a flight risk, adding that granting him bail would allow him to contact his alleged victims and witnesses to "spread false narratives, to get witnesses on his side" and gaslight them.
Following this, Judge Robyn Tarnofsky denied bail. Combs is held at the Metropolitan Detention Centre. Marc Agnifilo, his lawyer, planned to appeal the decision on Wednesday.
Exploring Dawn Richard's lawsuit against Diddy
On September 10, 2024, Dawn Richard filed a lawsuit against her former bandmate Diddy in a New York federal court. The suit, the eighth of the nature against the rapper, alleged that he s*xually and verbally abused her for 10 years.
Richard was a member of Combs' girl group, Danity Kane. She joined the group during season 3 of MTV's reality show Making the Band. In her suit, she claimed that Diddy was aggressive and hostile towards her throughout the making of the show, often passing "disparaging gender-based remarks" about her and others.
She also claimed Combs deprived the girl group of adequate food and sleep, often forcing the members to "record and rehearse for stretches of 36 to 48 hours without breaks."
"Forced to choose between eating and sleeping, Ms. Richard lost a significant amount of weight, weighing approximately 100 pounds at a height of 5'4". Ms. Richard began to normalize these extreme conditions and perceive them as standard requirements of her participation in Danity Kane," the court documents claimed.
Following Danity Kane's split, Richard joined Combs and Kalenna Harper to form Diddy-Dirty Money in 2009. According to court documents, Richard alleged that she and Harper witnessed Combs abusing and assaulting his then-partner Cassie Ventura. Richards also claimed that Combs threatened her and Harper to keep it a secret.
What did Kalenna Harper say about Richard's lawsuit?
A fellow Diddy-Dirty Money bandmate, Kalenna Harper, was mentioned 33 times in Dawn Richard's lawsuit. On September 13, 2024, Harper took to Instagram Stories to acknowledge the suit while denying their version of events didn't line up.
"I, acknowledge the recent lawsuit filed by Dawn Richard in which my name has been mentioned 33 times. While I fully respect Dawn's right to recount her experiences, l want to emphasize that her account reflects her personal perspective and should not be interpreted as a universal truth applicable to everyone involved," Kalenna Harper wrote.
Harper added that several allegations and incidents mentioned in the suit were not "representative" of her experiences and did not align with her truth. She said she wanted to refrain from discussing other aspects of the suit as it was an ongoing legal matter and hoped the legal system would handle the case "with the fairness and thoroughness it requires."
Meanwhile, Erica Wolff, Combs' lawyer, contacted People Magazine with a statement. She said the rapper was "shocked and disappointed" at Richard's lawsuit, adding:
"Mr. Combs is shocked and disappointed by this lawsuit. In an attempt to rewrite history, Dawn Richard has now manufactured a series of false claims all in the hopes of trying to get a pay day — conveniently timed to coincide with her album release and press tour."
Wolff claimed Richard set aside her 20-year friendship with Combs to get money from him with the suit, adding that the rapper looked forward to proving his truth in court.
Dawn Richard's suit was the eighth abuse lawsuit faced by Diddy, which began with Cassie Ventura in November 2023. Ventura accused her ex-partner of r*pe and a decade-long pattern of abuse, but the case was settled out of court.
Sean Combs denied all allegations. However, a video of the rapper physically assaulting Ventura went public in May 2024. The CCTV video was reportedly taken in 2016 at the InterContinental Hotel in LA, and Diddy's arrest came four months after the video was released. The rapper's s*x trafficking case is ongoing at the time of this article.
