Sean "Diddy" Combs is reportedly on suicide watch at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC). He was placed at the MDC after being denied bail on September 17. The rapper was arrested at the Park Hyatt Hotel on September 16, 2024, on charges of "s*x trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution."
According to People Magazine, an insider source revealed that the rapper was placed on suicide watch as a preventative measure. Diddy is reportedly in shock, and his mental state is unclear. The Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) has been described as "hell on earth" by inmates due to its understaffing and high number of deaths and suicides.
During Diddy's arraignment trial on Tuesday, Marc Agnifilo, his attorney, asked for his client to be transferred to an Essex County prison. In a statement to The Daily Beast, he reasoned that the MDC was too dangerous and unfit for pre-trial detention.
“Just earlier this summer, an inmate was murdered. At least four inmates have died by suicide there in the past three years,” Agnifilo said.
MDC currently houses 1600 inmates. It has previously held infamous criminals like rapper R Kelly, who was convicted of child s*xual abuse, and Ghislaine Maxwell, disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein's partner and associate in his s*x trafficking ring.
Diddy's hearing will continue on September 24
A conference hearing for Diddy's s*x trafficking case has been slated for 10 am on September 24. On September 18, Combs was denied bail a second time after prosecutors argued the rapper was a flight risk and a threat to victims and witnesses.
As proof, they cited Diddy's alleged 128 phone calls to former bandmate Kalenna Harper after their third bandmate Dawn Richard sued the rapper for abuse just days before his arrest.
However, Marc Agnifilo claimed that his client came to New York on September 5 to surrender, but the prosecution refused to accept the surrender. He argued that this was proof of his “trustworthiness and lack of flight risk.” In the end, Judge Robyn Tarnofsky denied bail, leading to the rapper being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center.
Combs' arrest came months after his LA and Miami mansion were raided on March 25, 2024. During the raid, Homeland Security reportedly found guns, narcotics, and 1000 bottles of baby oil, plus evidence of events referred to as "freak offs" in the indictment.
During the "freak offs," allegedly hosted by Diddy, the rapper would reportedly force women to engage in "elaborate and produced s*x performances" with male escorts. The court documents alleged that Combs sued his influence and various drugs to coerce women to participate in the "freak-offs."
“Freak Offs were elaborate and produced s*x performances that Combs arranged, directed, mas****ated during, and often electronically recorded,” the document said.
In addition to the s*x trafficking allegations, Diddy also faced eight lawsuits that accused him of abuse. The first was filed by his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, in November 2023, who alleged the rapper physically assaulted and s*xually abused her for the better part of a decade.
Combs pled not guilty to the s*x trafficking charges and denied the abuse lawsuits. However, a 2016 video of Combs assaulting Ventura made the news in May. Following this, the rapper issued a public apology video on Instagram.
