Amid his mounting legal woes, Sean "Diddy" Combs' honorary symbolic key to Miami Beach was reportedly rescinded following his federal charges and subsequent arrest. This came months after his hometown of New York retracted his key in June.

For those inversed, a key to the city is an honor bestowed by a city on civilians as a "symbol of civic recognition and gratitude." The rapper received the Miami key from Mayor Levine at the 2015 Revolt Music Conference.

However, the city is looking to revoke the honor after s*x trafficking and prostitution allegations were leveled at the rapper in September, in addition to multiple abuse and assault lawsuits.

According to The Mirror, negotiations for the retraction are in progress. However, it is unclear when the exact date will be finalized, as Miami is preparing to face Hurricane Milton, which will reportedly hit its coasts on October 9.

Sean Combs' arrest sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, with several of his A-list friends accused of being involved in his alleged crimes. In a press conference on October 1, a Texas-based attorney named Tony Buzbee said he was representing 120 accusers who came forward with various allegations against the rapper.

He alleged that the accusers named various celebrities as Diddy's alleged accomplices, and the lawyer has been quietly settling with them to avoid a public lawsuit that will release their identities.

Diddy accepted his NYC key in September 2023

Miami is not the only city looking to distance itself from Diddy following his s*x trafficking allegations. In June, Diddy's NYC key was rescinded months after Mayor Eric Adams offered it to him in September 2023. The rescission came after a video of Combs physically assaulting his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura went public in May 2024.

According to city hall, the key was returned on June 10. In a letter addressing the event, Adams explained why he saw it prudent to revoke Diddy's key to the city, adding the uncovered video "deeply disturbed" him.

“I strongly condemn these actions and stand in solidarity with all survivors of domestic and gender-based violence. After internal deliberations, the Key to the City of New York committee recommended nullifying and rescinding Mr. Combs’ key,” the letter read.

The video in question was a 2016 CCTV footage from the now-defunct InterContinental Hotel in LA. The footage, exclusively released by CNN in May, showed the rapper kicking, pushing, and throwing things at Ventura in the corridors of the hotel, clad in just a white towel.

Ventura had previously accused the rapper of s*xual assault and decade-long abuse in her lawsuit in November 2023. Following the video's release, Diddy issued a now-deleted apology video on social media, calling his behavior "inexcusable."

Diddy will appear in court on October 9

Sean Combs will appear in court for his upcoming hearing on October 9. The rapper was denied bail twice after the prosecution claimed he was a flight risk, with his legal team reportedly appealing for bail a third time.

The rapper's arrest in September came after Homeland Security raided his LA and Miami mansions in March 2024. During the raids, authorities reportedly found evidence of alleged "freak offs", described as drugged or coerced elaborate s*x acts staged between women and male escorts. The indictment alleged that Diddy orchestrated and recorded the "freak offs" for his pleasure.

Diddy maintained his innocence and pled not guilty to his federal charges. His mother, Janice Smith Combs, also defended her son in a statement released on October 6. She dubbed the accusations a "narrative created out of lies", adding that her son was undergoing a "public lynching."

“I come to you today as a mother that is devastated and profoundly saddened by the allegations made against my son, Sean Combs. It is heartbreaking to see my son judged not for the truth, but for a narrative created out of lies," the statement read.

The statement further stated:

"To bear witness what seems to be like a public lynching of my son before he has had the opportunity to prove his innocence is a pain too unbearable to put into words. Like every human being, my son deserves to have his day in court, to finally share his side, and to prove his innocence."

Diddy is held at the Metropolitan Detention Center awaiting his hearing.
