On September 30, 2024, Boosie BadAzz took to Instagram to publicly apologize to his daughter Iviona, aka Poison Ivi, for his comments about her sexuality. The rapper faced public outcry when he said he doesn't let Ivi's girlfriend visit his family because he didn't want to "contaminate" his other children.
Boosie's remarks, made during a panel at Revolt World 2024 on September 22, saw Ivi reply with an Instagram Live session in which she criticized her father for constantly bringing up her sexuality. Following this, Boosie BadAzz apologized to Ivi on Instagram, posting a carousel of him and his daughter with the caption:
"I SAID SOME THINGS N I DIDNT KNOW ITLL HURT U YO DADDY TRULY SORRY N I HOPE U CAN FORGIVE ME LIVE N YO TRUTH N JUST KNOW THAT U ALWAYS MY BABY NO MATTER WHAT ACCEPT MY PUBLIC APOLOGY DADDY COULDVE SAID IT N A BETTER WAY U MY BABY N WILL ALWAYS BE DAT #daddybaby HOPE WE CAN TALK."
Boosie BadAzz's apology was met with mixed responses on social media. Many were critical of the rapper choosing to broadcast an apology to his daughter on a public platform.
"Does he not have her phone number. Why he post on IG lmfao," one person tweeted.
Several netizens claimed Boosie BadAzz was apologizing to mitigate the backlash, not because he meant it.
"He only said something because she did. Sadly, he'll say something again in the next 2-3 weeks," one person tweeted.
"He’s doing this for views & engagement! He really doesn’t mean it!" another person added.
"Sounds like he’s sorry for the public scrutiny," someone else commented.
"I hope he said it to her face not just on social media," another user wrote.
However, others appreciated the rapper's apology, praising him for his growth.
"Boosie's apology shows growth, but parents need to listen and support their kids without judgment," one person commented.
"At least he’s apologizing. Good on him to see that growth and change," another person added.
"Moral of the story. Love your kids. Let them live their adult lives and learn on their own accord….." someone else tweeted.
Boosie BadAzz's comments and his daughter's reaction explored
Boosie BadAzz's remarks about his daughter's sexuality came during his appearance at Yung Miami’s Revolt show Caresha Please! on September 22. He said his daughter's girlfriend was not invited to his house because he did not want his other children to be exposed to homosexuality.
“She still can’t bring her situation to our house. My daughter is grown—Because I don’t want it to contaminate her others [siblings]. It’s a generation we’re raising, and I don’t want her to get too contaminated for her other six or seven sisters who look up to her. I want them to bring me grandchildren the right way,” Boosie BadAzz said.
On September 27, his daughter Ivi responded to the remarks in a 12-minute long Instagram Live session. Ivi, an aspiring rapper, was critical of her father's need to constantly talk about her sexuality instead of promoting her music. She also claimed he lied when he learned that Ivi was a lesbian.
Ivi claimed Boosie BadAzz found out she was a lesbian during a family trip to Jamaica, where he called her a "gay b***h." She said she had forgiven him for his hurtful words as he was her father.
“N***a, I’m your blood. I am your daughter. And me, I feel like I done been through the most with you. And every time I turn around, you bash me. It’s like you bash me. And it’s like the whole world can go against you, but Ivi won’t. Since I’ve been a little girl, I never would go against you. And I think I’m really fed up,” she said.
Ivi also noted that Boosie was not a bad father; however, he tended to open up on the internet and not have proper conversations with his children. She also spoke about her close relationship with her siblings, saying they loved and respected her.
Following the Instagram Live, Boosie BadAzz apologized to his daughter on social media with a series of posts, claiming he never meant to hurt her. He added that he would not fall victim to the online narrative that he was a bad father, adding, "What is understood doesn’t need to be said."
This was followed by Boosie BadAzz's latest apology on Instagram. Poison Ivi has yet to reply to his apologies.
