Jelly Roll confessed to having a unique clothing quirk: throwing away socks after just one wear. This comes ahead of the 59th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards. Speaking with Audacy's Sabrina from Queens on May 15, he jokingly pleaded,

"Don't judge me for this. I promise I grew up very humble, but I only wear socks once. I buy socks in bulk…it's the most frivolous thing I've done with my success. I hope nobody is disappointed, but let's be real, when you're bigger you can't have stinky feet too, so you gotta have fresh socks!"

The 39-year-old artist, known for hits like Son of a Sinner, emphasizes his humble beginnings throughout his music and interviews. His success speaks for itself: three No. 1 Country Airplay hits, Grammy nominations, the acclaimed album Whitsitt Chapel, and a sold-out 44-city tour (Backroad Baptism Tour in 2023).

Jelly Roll's rise to fame is a well-documented story. From his past as a prison inmate to his current status as a chart-topping country artist, the journey has been captured in the Hulu documentary Jelly Roll: Save Me.

Jelly Roll Up for four ACM awards in the first year of nominations

Jelly Roll is celebrating a momentous year at the Academy of Country Music Awards (ACM Awards), currently streaming on Prime Video. This year marks his first time being nominated, and he's not going unnoticed.

The country star is a contender in a whopping four categories: Single of the Year (Need A Favor), Music Event of the Year (Save Me feat. Lainey Wilson), Entertainer of the Year, and Male Artist of the Year. This has ignited the possibility of a major sweep for Jelly Roll.

Hailing from Tennessee, the artist expressed surprise and excitement about his nominations to Audacy's Katie Neal on May 15. The "Entertainer of the Year" nomination, in particular, seemed to leave him speechless.

"The entertainer of the year [nomination], that's crazy talk," Jelly Roll stated.

He told Katie Neal that he was overwhelmed by the number of nominations. Amazingly, before even knowing the specific categories, he learned he was the first artist to go from zero nominations to Entertainer of the Year since Billy Ray Cyrus in 1993.

Jelly Roll's sentiment reflects both his humility and the significance of his nominations. He questioned,

"My first thought was, 'You been nominated four times, what could I have done that justified four nominations?!'"

In a separate heartwarming turn of events, the artist recently received an endless stream of flowers and was even honored at his former high school earlier this month, after being banned as a student. His wife, Bunnie Xo, shared a video of the emotional visit at Antioch High School via TikTok on May 13.

Bunnie also conveyed her thoughts on the experience in the video's text.

"Last week I got to watch him walk the halls again, perform & be welcomed by the kids & teachers," she shared. "The love and giving back that they showed my husband was the sweetest thing ever to watch."

The 59th Academy of Country Music Awards will be held on Thursday, May 16, at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas. Country music legend Reba McEntire takes the stage as host for a record-breaking 17th time.
