The controversy surrounding Drake's alleged leaked DMs about LeBron James encountered a new twist after Chris Blake Griffith, the alleged recipient, recently addressed the situation with DJ Akademiks. Griffith, a celebrity stylist, accused the Canadian rapper of lying about the DMs and claiming they were faked.
For the unversed, Chris Blake Griffith posted screenshots of his alleged text thread with Drizzy on his Instagram on January 7. In the messages, the rapper allegedly compared his legal troubles with UMG to Nike funding a campaign "about Lebron cheating on his wife."
Following this, DJ Akademiks said the 6 God reached out to him and alleged Griffth had faked the messages. However, Griffith spoke with Akademiks during the latter's livestream on January 10, during which he claimed Drake had lied to the media personality after using him as a spokesperson to deliver his message.
"Don't let him lie to you like that. You a credible source, you the heartbeat to the industry, you see what I'm saying? Your whole brand is built on credibility. You got to tell the truth. You got to deliver the truth. So when homes get in a bond, and he lean on you to deliver a lie, you put everything in skepticism," Griffith said on the phone.
Exploring the leaked DMs controversy between Drake and Chris Blake Griffith
The controversy surrounding Drake and Chris Blake Griffith began on January 7, 2025, after the celebrity stylist took to his social media to upload a series of alleged text threads between him and the rapper.
In the messages, Griffith was reportedly trying to talk to the rapper about his feud with NFL player Stefon Diggs, which brewed after the stylist alleged Diggs tried to s*xually assault him.
He then shared a lengthy message the rapper allegedly sent him, where the rapper likened his petitions against Universal Music Group to Nike campaigning about LeBron James allegedly cheating on his wife.
"Me and Universal is like if Nike was funding a campaign about Lebron cheating on his wife. Not Adidas or Reebok... Nike the company he been with since he started. My situation is not no street s**t," an alleged message from Drake read.
Rumors of a feud between the rapper and the NBA star swirled on the internet after the 6 God unofficially released a track titled Fighting Irish Freestyle days into the new year. Netizens theorized the rapper had dissed James, with whom he had been on friendly terms, in the track after the basketball player sided with Kendrick Lamar during their rap beef.
James was spotted at Lamar's pop-out show in June 2024, where the rapper performed most of his Drizzy diss tracks live for the first time, including Not Like Us, five times in a row.
What did Akademiks say about the alleged text messages?
Following Chris Blake Griffith's Instagram post about his alleged messages with Drake, DJ Akademiks publicly stated that the rapper told him the leaked DMs were artificially generated.
"Team Akademiks can confirm that this is an artificially generated fake DM. Drake called buddy a Rat..... he got mad and made up some fake DM to try to make the blogs and go viral. end of story. Source - the boy," Akademiks tweeted.
However, Griffith alleged that the rapper had lied about the DMs being faked in his recent phone call with Akademiks, claiming the messages were true and he had proof.
Griffith claimed he was an advocate for The Boy. However, he added that this was the first time he had seen Drake lie publicly about something. He then advised Akademiks to verify the rapper's claims before voicing them on his channels.
Drake has yet to respond to Griffith's allegation at the time of this article.
