Torrence Ivy Hatch Jr., a.k.a. Boosie Badazz, recently defended Gucci Mane, as many continue to criticize the latter over tragedies that befall past and present artists signed to his label. During his Sunday, August 4, 2024, interview on VladTV, the Louisiana rapper explained that it was not Mane's fault, stating:
"That n*gga giving muthaf*ckas a chance. What a n*gga go do on they own, that's what they do on they own. We grown. Don't put it on that man like that's his fault."
Boosie continued:
"Come on, man. That n*gga giving you a chance. You probably wouldn't know (he artist) to be a celebrity if he didn't give him a chance."
For the uninitiated, on June 11, news broke that Channing Nicole Larry, who goes by the stage name Enchanting, passed away at the age of 26. At the time, Guwop, who once signed her under his banner 1017, shared an Instagram post dedicated to the Track & Field singer.
However, fans quickly flooded the comment section of his post with remarks about the label being cursed. Some even blamed him for the ill fates of the artists. This prompted Gucci Mane's wife, Keyshia, to come to his defense, stating:
"Leave my husband alone! He signs these artist to help them & give them a better life! I wish it wasn’t like this ! Chant we love you baby girl ! RIH"
"I try to help those artists that I feel I see a lot of myself in"- Gucci Mane about signing artists to his label
Earlier this year, Gucci Mani, during his appearance on his wife's podcast, All Things (May 2024), was questioned about the "cursed" rumors. Guwop explained:
"I was one of those type of artists, I was always going back and forth to jail. I try to help those artists that I feel I see a lot of myself in."
He adds that if not him, then who else would help them?
Rumors of 1017 being cursed began in January 2023, when Mac Critter was arrested and charged with murder.
At the time, Joe Budden, on his eponymous podcast, spoke about the tragic lives of artists associated with or once associated with Gucci Mane's label. He claimed Gucci Mane's recruit needed to be studied, as it was "no coincidence" that so many of his artists had troubled lives.
Troubled 1017 artists include Hotboy Wes (serving 15 years for robbery), Big Scarr (died of overdose), and Foogiano (serving five years after melting his ankle monitor and being on the run over gun possession), among others.
Meanwhile, Mane has not publicly reacted to Boosie's comments yet.
