Entrepreneur Dame Dash is on the verge of losing his stake at Roc a Fella Records after failing to pay a $800,000 settlement. Bidders interested in the 33.3 percent stake must bid a minimum of $1.2 million with a $240,000 deposit made immediately at the time of the sale. Netizens have since taken to the internet to react to the news.

For the uninitiated, Dame Dash is the co-founder of Roc a Fella Records alongside Jay-Z and Kareem “Biggs” Burke.

According to TMZ, Dame Dash’s stake is being sold by the U.S. Marshals Service, as he was initially ordered to pay $800,000 in 2022 after losing the copyright infringement and defamation case against filmmaker Josh Webber.

Webber claimed that Dash promoted his 2019 Dear Frank film and also attempted to pass it off as his own despite having stopped working with Webber.

Those interested in buying his stake will have to register for the auction in Manhattan by e-mailing Webber’s attorney, Christopher Brown. The auction is said to take place on August 29.

Internet users felt sympathetic towards Dame Dash and wondered who would be buying off his stake. Many claimed that Jay-Z would likely win the auction. Others also stated that Drake must bid for the stake.

Rock a Fella was founded by the trio in 1994. Last month, Dame Dash also took to Instagram to reveal that his stake in Jay-Z’s Reasonable Doubt album was “for sale.”

Meanwhile, Drake was approached to sign with Rock a Fella twice in 2011. However, he declined both times. It Is What It Is podcast’s Cam’ron and Ma$e also opined in February 2024 that Drizzy would likely want to buy Dame Dash’s stake in the music label. Meanwhile, other comments read:

“Drake probably would want to buy it from me”- It Is What It Is podcast hosts opine that Drizzy would be interested in Dame Dash’s stake

On February 28, the podcast’s moderator, Treasure “Stat Baby” Wilson, brought up rumors of the show’s co-hosts buying Dash’s stake. However, Ma$e joked that Drake would like to buy it from him. Murda said:

“Let’s just say, Killa, I did for $20. Who would I sell it to? First I was thinking, ‘Man, I’d probably sell it to Drake.’ Drake probably would want to buy it from me.”

Discussions about Dash’s stake come after he was ousted from the aforementioned film project as he was deemed unfit for the job. The movie’s production company, Muddy Water Pictures, stated that he was high on the movie set while shooting. The movie was eventually shot without him, with the production company and Webber suing him later.
