Billboard shared its annual roundup of its top songs of the year yesterday - December 5 - with Kendrick Lamar's Not Like Us topping the list as number 1. Released in May - amidst the height of the Drake-Lamar feud - the track peaked on Billboard's Hot 100 chart soon after its release.

Billboard's announcement has since gone viral on social media, with a large number of netizens reacting to it. Many of them brought up Drake in their comments, with some suggesting that the One Dance rapper might use this as evidence to take legal action against Billboard.

For the unversed, the reference stems from Drizzy recently suing UMG and Spotify for artificially inflating streams of Not Like Us.

Some netizens reacted positively to the news, praising the Money Trees rapper for his success.

"Absolutely! Kendrick Lamar just keeps proving why he's in a league of his own. 'Not Like Us' isn’t just a song, it’s an experience. The way he tells stories, with such depth and emotion, makes it impossible not to feel connected." - commented an X user.
"Drake having another bad day today" - replied another one.
"Many people gonna be so jealous tonight" - posted a third user.

Meanwhile, others criticized Billboard's decision, calling it a "disservice" to artists that created "real music" this year.

"this is such a disservice to every artist that put their heart into real music this year" - wrote a fourth user.
"It’s definitely not the best song get real! I don’t even know how people can call this stuff music!" - posted a fifth one.
"…was it tho?" - commented a sixth user.

Other songs on Billboard's top 10 list include Sabrina Carpenter's Espresso, Chappell Roan's Good Luck, Babe!, Billie Eilish's Birds of a Feather, Shaboozey's A Bar Song, Charlie XCX's Girl So Confusing, Addison Rae's Diet Pepsi, Beyoncé's Bodyguard, Tommy Richman's Million Dollar Baby, and Taylor Swift's Fortnight.

The title of Billboard's number 1 comes after Kendrick Lamar's Not Like Us bagged multiple achievements and broke several music records this year. In October, the track completed 21 weeks at the top of Billboard's Hot Rap Songs chart. With that, Not Like Us became the longest-running champ in the chart's 35-year-long history.

K-Dot's song surpassed the record of Lil Nas' Old Town Road in the running, which held the record of 20 weeks. The song also dominated the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay list throughout the summers of 2024, spending 15 non-consecutive weeks on the chart.

Earlier this month - on December 3 - Apple Music released its year-end charts, in which Lamar's Not Like Us was placed at number 1.

Four tracks from Lamar's GNX are ranked within the top 5 on Billboard

The success of Kendrick Lamar's Not Like Us is complemented by the success of his latest surprise album, GNX - his sixth studio album that contains 12 tracks released in November 2022.

The album's song have made headlines for Lamar's disses at Drake, name-dropping Lil Wayne, and sampling Tupac's music. Four of its 12 songs have already secured their position in the Top 5 of Billboard's Hot 100 chart - with Squabble Up on number 1, TV Off on 2, Luther on 3, and Wacced Out Murals on 4.

To support GNX, Kendrick Lamar has also announced a headlining tour across North America next year, on which his recent collaborator, SZA, will join the rapper. The Grand National Tour kickstarts in April 2025 and concludes in June 2025. The tickets for the tour go live on sale today.
