"Drake just gotta take this L" - Fans react as Kendrick Lamar credits Dave Free as the director of his 'Not Like Us' music video 

Kendrick Lamar dropped the much-anticipated music video of his Drake diss track titled Not Like Us on July 4, 2024, and it has since garnered severe traction online. Alongside his name, he mentioned his longtime friend and business partner, Dave Free, as the co-director of the music video.

Since this revelation, fans of Kendrick Lamar have been slamming his longtime rival Drake. It is because Drake had previously claimed in his diss track Family Matters that one of K-Dot’s kids with his fiancé, Whitney Alford, was not his but rather the biological child of Dave Free.

Here are some of the reactions on X where Kendrick fans are calling Drake a liar and a loser, among other things, while also hailing the Compton rapper and Dave Free.

“Kendrick Lamar got Whitney dancing to Not Like Us in the music video and guess what? The video was directed by Dave Free. Hahahaha, Drake just gotta take this L,” a person wrote.

Netizens continued to criticize Drake and added that Dave Free must be "enjoying the victory lap" with Lamar.

“Drake lied about that boy being Dave Free son and Whitney being sad. Legit didn’t win a single round,” one person wrote.

“Dave Free posting on IG and enjoying the victory lap with Kendrick,” another person wrote.

“Tried that Top Dawg sh*t, he in the video. Tried that YG sh*t, he in the video. Tried that Dave Free sh*t, he directed and in the video. Tried that family sh*t, they in the video,” a fan wrote.

Other fans appreciated the "creative direction" of the music video and wrote:

“That Not Like Us video was amazing… I love the culture all throughout, Whitney walking on everybody & can we talk about the spacing? Kendrick & Dave Free understand it so well,” another individual wrote.

Notably, apart from being the co-director of Kendrick Lamar’s Not Like Us music video, Dave Free also serves as the executive producer for the song.

Last month, the co-president of TDE was also credited as the top producer and creative director of K-Dot’s The Pot Out – Ken & Friends Juneteenth concert held at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California.

Taking a look at Drake’s accusations with respect to Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free

On May 3, Drake dropped the diss track Family Matters as part of his rap battle with Kendrick Lamar. The Canadian rapper claimed that one of Lamar’s children with his high-school sweetheart and now fiancé, Whitney Alford, was not biologically his, but was fathered by Dave Free.

“I heard that one of ‘em little kids might be Dave Free/ Don't make it Dave Free’s/ ‘Cause if your GM is your BM secret BD/ Then this is all makin’ f*ckin’ sense to me,” Drizzy rapped.

On May 5, Drizzy released a follow-up diss track The Heart Pt. 6 where he went on to allege that Whitney Alford was disloyal to K-Dot with Dave Free.

"What about the bones we dug up in that excavation/ And why isn't Whitney denying all of the allegations/ Why is she following Dave Free and not Mr. Morale,” the Toronto native rapped.

Here, Drake’s reference to Mr. Morale was actually a jab at Kendrick Lamar and was a play on the latter’s 2022 hit double album titled Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers.

Meanwhile, Drizzy further sang, “You haven’t seen the kids in six months, the distance is wild/ Dave leaving heart emojis under pics of the child” on this diss track. Through these lyrics, he hinted that Kendrick was estranged from his family and living a separate life, while “breeding resentment” against Dave Free.
