Kendrick Lamar's diss track Not Like Us grabbed a lot of attention on social media once again after it was played at the Democratic National Convention 2024, also known as DNC. Apart from Lamar's song, tracks of other artists were played by DJ Cassidy, including Raise Up and Empire State of Mind.
The singles were played as a part of conducting a roll call for different states and cities such as Alabama, Arizona, Connecticut, and Delaware. Lamar's song was selected for California along with another song by Tupac, California Love.
Not Like Us came out on May 4, 2024, and it was released when Kendrick Lamar was involved in a beef with Drake. The rappers were releasing multiple diss tracks at the time, targeting each other's lives and the lyrics of the songs became a topic of discussion for the public.
Notably, Kamala Harris has also used Beyonce's single Freedom after launching her presidential campaign in July this year. Reportedly, the approval to use the song was given by the representatives of the artist at the last minute and it was additionally used to start the DNC 2024.
Donald Trump has also used multiple songs from different artists such as Adele and Eddy Grant, and most of them have addressed their dissatisfaction with the same on different occasions.
Meanwhile, the moment of Kendrick Lamar's diss track being played at the DNC 2024 was also recorded on camera. Netizens took to the comments section of The Shade Room's Instagram post to share their reactions, which included the video from the Convention. A user wrote:
"Drake just threw his phone across the room and it accidentally hit poor Adonis on the forehead."
Users were spotted praising the entire playlist, with one of them saying that Kendrick Lamar's track was the "song of the year." A person wrote that he was also present on the occasion, saying that he stood behind the Governor.
Kendrick Lamar's Not Like Us continues to make new records
Although Not Like Us was released as part of Kendrick Lamar's beef with Drake, it still managed to impress the critics. The track was released through Interscope Records and the lyrics included some severe allegations against Drake. It even grabbed the top spot on the US Billboard Hot 100 alongside other charts.
The song Not Like Us has achieved another milestone by making TikTok's Top 10 Songs of the Summer list. This list features songs that were especially popular on the platform during this summer.
TikTok said in a statement that they are happy to offer help to upcoming artists around the world with a short video platform that would let them connect with everyone around the world. They also stated:
"These past few months have been an iconic hotbed for music. Country blockbuster tracks and '80s dancing, opening ceremony performances and rising female stars across K-pop, hip-hop, afro-beats, and more: the summer's biggest music moments have been popping off on TikTok."
Furthermore, the list included the names of other artists including Tommy Richman, Tinashe, Blood Orange, Billie Eilish, Sabrina Carpenter, and more.
