Canadian singer and rapper Tory Lanez shared his plans through a prison call, which was later posted on social media. On July 24, Lanez shared the news with his fans that he was going to record and release his new "Free Tory Playlist."

In the prison call, Lanez says,

"This is the first of its kind and although God has already shown me that this moment is only temporary, it speaks testimony to the fact that no matter where they put me, they can’t lock down my spirit..."

The rapper, who went to prison for shooting Megan Thee Stallion, said that the recording of the tracks would happen from inside the prison. He further continued stating the list would be updated every week.

The shared phone call and this conversation went viral in some time and fans couldn't help but praise the rapper for making music even while being behind bars using a jail phone. Here are some reactions to the prison call:

Tory Lanez had been dropping unreleased tracks under the Lost Tapes name

While fans had been going crazy after Tory Lanez's prison phone call, in which he spoke about making music from there, was shared on his Instagram profile, it is worth knowing that he was already dropping music from inside the prison. Several unreleased tracks had gone up on Lanez's YouTube channel over the past few weeks under Lost Tapes.

The tracks that were posted under this category were:

  • Someone Else (Lost Tapes 2015)
  • I've Been (Lost Tapes 2016)
  • Phases (Lost Tapes 2017)
  • L.M.B.B (Lost Tapes 2018)
  • Girls Around The World (Lost Tapes 2016)
  • Girls In The Room (Lost Tapes 2020)

These tracks were recorded in the past over the years, ranging from 2015 to 2020.

In 2023, he released Alone At Prom (Deluxe) from inside the prison. Fans are now excited for the Free Tory Playlist and to witness the upcoming tracks. Cell 245 had garnered more than 38,000 views and over 6k likes, within four hours since its release. Wish I Never Met You got over 50,000 views and more than 8k likes within the first few hours.

Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison, after he was found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020, after coming out of a party that took place at Kylie Jenner's house. Stallion and Lanez reportedly got into a heated argument, which eventually led to the shooting.

In the prison phone call, Tory Lanez says that nothing could stop him from making new music anymore.

"It’s over. I done cracked the f*cking code, man. This means that not even these prison walls can stop me from dropping new music. It’s crazy!"

While he didn't mention how long he could continue the series, fans seemed quite excited and pumped up for it.

Prosecutors sought a 13-year sentence for Tory Lanez after his conviction

According to the prosecutors, Lanez had no remorse after the shooting incident. He was further accused of "humiliating and re-traumatizing" the victim. These allegations were then backed by Megan Thee Stallion's statement at the sentencing hearing. She claimed how Lanez didn't just traumatize her, but also "mocked" her.

Stallion also said,

"He tried to position himself as a victim and set out to destroy my character and my soul […] He lied to anyone that would listen and paid bloggers to disseminate false information about the case on social media."

The court found Lanez guilty of assault with a firearm, illegal possession of a firearm, and negligent discharge of a gun for shooting the victim.
