JoJo Siwa garnered immense backlash on Reddit after being accused of stealing the cover art that featured on one of Tool’s albums. The former included the art piece on a construction worker vest that she wore while promoting her new single, Guilty Pleasure. The child star had not responded to the criticism she had garnered at the time of writing this article.
In a photo dump that made it to TikTok, one could see JoJo Siwa's wrench logo, which resembled the phallic symbol. The top head of the object was facing right, with “JOJO” written on the handle.
If one placed the wrench logo that was seen on Tool’s 1991 demo EP 72826, both symbols would look incredibly similar. The only difference would be that the bottom two heads of the wrench have different inner profiles.
Tool included their own wrench logo on their merchandise. For the uninitiated, Maynard James Keenan is the singer and primary lyricist of Tool.
Many found it peculiar that JoJo Siwa’s and Tool’s wrenches looked the same. Several people accused her of stealing the idea as she attempted to rebrand her image. A few reactions read:
“Tool should start selling giant bows,” one X user commented.
“This chick stole some girls song off of insta and now this. Hate from North Carolina,” another platform user alleged.
“My wife said she was a child star now she’s just an influencer. Maynard call the lawyers please,” an internet user stated online.
Meanwhile, other reactions read:
“Let the cease and desist begin…. Lets not become swifties. We are already insufferable,” an internet user commented.
“She’s going to find out the hard way when TOOL’s lawyers find out about this,” a netizen said.
“She’s a tool anyway,” a platform user commented.
It remains unclear as to whether Tool will take legal action against the YouTube star. Other reactions to the controversy read:
“She has a long history of stealing IP,” a netizen said.
“This is a violation of Tools rights as creators. It’s outrageous, egregious, preposterous,” another internet user said.
“Maynard is going to be pissed,” a platform user said.
This is not the first time JoJo Siwa has been accused of copying a band
This is the second time in recent months that the Karma singer has been accused of stealing ideas from other artists. In April, fans of Kiss singer Gene Simmons accused JoJo Siwa of stealing his signature costumes after she attended the iHeart Radio Music Awards with a shocking ensemble. Although she garnered hate online, Simmons himself told TMZ that he found her outfit “cool.”
Tool’s wrench logo has dealt with its fair share of controversies. The original artist of the design, Cam De Leon, sued the band in 2006 for the continued use of the art after he had created it for the group in the early 1990s. Leon claimed that he did not get properly compensated.
The controversy landed the band and the designer in court, leading to the former winning the legal battle.
As Tool fans wait to see whether JoJo Siwa will be sued, followers of the latter can enjoy her Guilty Pleasure EP, which was released on July 12.
