"Thank you god... like god d*mn... If i don't think there was a god before..." Megan can be heard in between tears.
As the clip went viral, internet users were quick to react. One remarked:
"Emotional? She was shocked he went down for a lie."
Many criticized the rapper for trying to gain sympathy and celebrating someone else going to prison. Here are some comments from fans on Instagram.
Others spoke in support of Megan, as many commented as follows.
"I still, every day, have to deal with people mad at me"- Megan Thee Stallion about the aftermath of the Tory Lanez episode
Tory Lanez is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence after he was found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in her foot in 2020. The high-profile case involved the two rappers and Megan's former friend Kelsey Harris getting into a drunken roadside argument that ended in the Mamushi rapper getting shot in the foot.
In December 2022, the Canadian rapper was convicted on three felony charges: assault with a semi-automatic handgun, having a loaded and unregistered firearm in the vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
In her documentary, Megan Thee Stallion spoke about the aftermath of the whole episode and the online hate she received. The Houston-born rapper explained:
"I really thought that once he got sentenced and once he went off to jail, I was going be a new woman and I thought I was going to be great and I could just go be the Megan Thee Stallion I always wanted to be. No. I still, every day, have to deal with people mad at me because I said what happened to me."
She continued to explain that she had reached a point where she "really doesn't care." Megan Thee Stallion added that for the first time since her mother died, she was taking care of herself and wanted to feel "good." She continued:
"I don’t feel like I’m operating at one million percent now, but I definitely feel like I’m operating better. I do feel hopeful for what’s next for me."
Later in the documentary, Megan Thee Stallion revealed she lied to Gayle King about not having an intimate relationship with Tory Lanez during her April 2022 interview.
During the trial, Harris testified that she, Megan, and Lanez were arguing about Megan going behind her back and sleeping with the Canadian rapper (whom she was in an intimate relationship with). She argued that the question was inappropriate and had nothing to do with the shooting.
After the news spread, Tory Lanez' legal representative told TMZ that Megan's admission about lying to Gayle makes her an "unreliable witness." They told the publication,
"If someone lies in front of millions, how can they be trusted otherwise?"
Megan has not publicly reacted to the backlash yet.
