Nicki Minaj extended her support for Lil Wayne after slamming Roc Nation in a string of tweets on Monday, September 9. Jay-Z's Roc Nation has recently come under criticism for not choosing native rapper Lil Wayne to headline Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show in New Orleans.

The tweets followed the announcements from Apple Music, Roc Nation, and the NFL, choosing Kendrick Lamar to headline the Halftime Show on February 9, 2025. On X, Nicki Minaj seemingly slammed Jay-Z, implying that the rapper's personal hatred for Drake, herself, and Birdman led to him "punishing" Lil Wayne.

She later clarified herself, commenting that fans didn't need to choose between Kendrick and Lil Wayne. The Pink Friday artist supported K Dot but spoke against Lil Wayne's alleged snubbing.

“You can love & respect Kendrick and still love & respect Wayne. Even Kendrick loves & respects Wayne. Every real rapper loves & respects Wayne,” wrote Nicki Minaj.

What did Nicki Minaj say about Jay-Z's alleged snubbing of Lil Wayne from the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show?

Roc Nation is the program partner of NFL events like the Super Bowl Halftime Show, and Jay-Z has been the company's music strategist since 2019. On September 9, he issued a public statement endorsing Kendrick Lamar after he was chosen to headline Super Bowl Halftime Show.

“Kendrick Lamar is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer. His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come,” shared Jay Z.

Several high-profile hip-hop icons expressed their disappointment after the announcement by Roc Nation. Among them was Nicki Minaj, who blasted Jay-Z and his company for not choosing Lil Wayne to perform in his home city, New Orleans.

She accused Jay-Z of overlooking Lil Wayne because of his alleged hatred for Drake, Birdman, and Nicki herself. In follow-up tweets, she praised Lil Wayne, highlighting his impact on the hip-hop culture.

“And btw, you don’t know the half of what Lil Wayne has done for me & others. Wayne had Drake & I on his tour w/no papers signed. He was on all of my mixtapes w/no papers signed. This man has literally changed the FACE of hip-hop,” the 41-year-old tweeted.

Nicki Minaj also wrote about Wayne's influence on young rappers, adding that he was not in the industry for money but "for the love of music." In another post, she wrote:

“God forbid if Wayne was to leave this earth right now, the culture would be in mourning. That’s why so many ppl keep saying to give our legends their flowers while they are still around to smell them. Sitting around all day playing games with ppl life & legacy.”

Finally, Nicki Minaj highlighted that people can love Kendrick Lamar and Lil Wayne together, adding that even K Dot "love[s] and respect[s]" Lil Wayne.

Nicki Minaj has beefed with Jay-Z's Roc Nation in the past. Earlier this year, she accused Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez of terminating employees for "unknown reasons." The rapper even accused Perez of trying to replace her with Megan Thee Stallion as the lead female rapper.
