American rapper Lil Durk took to X, formerly known as Twitter, and shared a post on September 23, 2024, informing netizens that his background had been wiped clean. Durk explained how everybody deserved second chances in life. In the tweet, he wrote:
"Everybody should get second chances at life. It’s about what you do with it. Alhamdulillah! My background wiped and clean of all cases. I ain’t a felon anymore. Who would have thought? I want to thank everyone who helped push my vision forward. Thank you from the bottom of my heart #THEVOICE."
The rapper had previously been connected to the 2019 shooting in Atlanta. Back in May, of that year, the Atlanta Police Department told Billboard that they had issued an arrest warrant for Lil Durk.
Then in October 2022, Channel 2 Action News released a report according to which the rapper was not getting charged with the 2019 shooting case. For the unversed, in the aforementioned case, a 23-year-old man was shot outside of The Varsity restaurant in Atlanta.
Durk reportedly turned himself in as soon as he became aware of the fact that he was then a wanted man. He, however, had been maintaining his innocence since the beginning. The Fulton County District Attorney's Office later decided to drop the charges due to "prosecutorial discretion."
Lil Durk had been involved in several legal cases over the years
While talking about the 2019 charges against Lil Durk, it is worth noting that it wasn't the first time that he got involved in such a situation. He had previously been convicted for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in 2012. In 2014, he pleaded guilty to two weapon charges in connection to an arrest that happened a year before that, in 2013.
Sun-Times Media then mentioned that cops arrested Durk after receiving a report of someone having seen Lil Durk with a handgun. The rapper was later detained from the 7200 block of South Green Street.
According to court documents, Durk pleaded guilty to one felony count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and one count of felony possession of a firearm, in connection to the 2013 arrest. He then received a sentence of 18 months probation and 50 hours of community service. In 2014, he also shared a tweet praising his lawyers and wrote:
"Sam Adams JR great lawyer to have on your side il take probation anyday I don’t smoke or drink anyway."
After that, he was charged in connection to a shooting in 2019. However, the charges were later dismissed. Recently, producer Micah Foster had sued Durk along with Chris Brown. According to Foster, the duo stole his beat for their 2022 collab Till the Wheels Fall Off.
As per the court documents obtained by TMZ, Foster had claimed that his song was made in 2019, way back from the time when the collaboration was done. Neither Brown nor Lil Durk had responded to any of the allegations as of now.
