Nicki Minaj sent Sabrina Carpenter flowers after the latter's album topped the Billboard 200 chart. Carpenter, who dropped her sixth studio venture, Short N' Sweet, in August, thanked the rapper for her gesture in an Instagram Story, writing:
"I adore u @nickiminaj + the barbz :') this is so thoughtful!!!! and these are so beautiful."
To be noted: "Barbz" is a term for Minaj's fans. It comes from The Harajuku Barbie, the rapper's alter ego.
As the Espresso hitmaker's Instagram Story went viral, internet users were quick to react. One accused Minaj of trying to be like Beyonce, referencing Queen Bey's recent post with Megan Thee Stallion and Glorilla, stating:
"Everyone wanna be a Beyonce!"
Many felt that the Anaconda rapper was using Sabrina Carpenter for clout, and one user even predicted that the duo would beef in the future. Here are some comments as seen on X:
"The modern day day version of that old h*g giving Snow White a poisonous apple," one user wrote.
"nicki starting phase 1 of befriending whichever girl is trending rn," another commented.
"They're gonna be beefing in 2 days," a user added.
Seeing negative comments against Nicki, many came to her defense.
"This proves that you all just hate Nicki for no reason. Y'all shouldn't complain anymore when Nicki stops showing love/ flowers to any female artist." A fan remarked.
"nicki not supporting artists: "she's so bitter" / nicki supporting artists: "she's buttering them up for a feature" / y'all are so weird. please get tf off twitter and live your miserable life elsewhere," an exasperated user chimed in.
"BARBRINA IS COMING," another user quipped.
Sabrina Carpenter's Short N' Sweet narrowly beat Travis Scott's Days Before Rodeo re-release to lead the Billboard 200 chart
Sabrina Carpenter's Short N' Sweet, which dropped on August 23, 2024, focuses on the singer's love life and her opinions on dating in the 2020s. The album was met with positive reviews, although critics criticized the songwriting, calling it enjoyable but low-risk.
The project was preceded by her singles Espresso and Please Please Please, both topping the Billboard Global 200 list. Additionally, all 12 tracks from the album made the Hot 100 list.
Short N' Sweet narrowly beat Travis Scott's Days Before Rodeo re-release to make the No. 1 spot on Billboard 200, a career first for Sabrina Carpenter. Her album sold 362,000 equivalent sales as compared to Scott's 361,000.
Nicki Minaj's flowers to Carpenter do not come as a surprise, as the latter's face-off with Scott mirrored her own. In 2018, Minaj's Queen debuted at the No. 2 spot on the chart, behind Travis Scott's Astroworld. At the time, she slammed the SICKO MODE hitmaker on her radio show (Queen Radio), stating:
"It's because Travis Scott is out here selling f*cking clothes, and got y'all thinking he's selling f*cking music... What we're not going to do is have this Auto-Tune man coming up here selling f*cking sweaters and telling y'all he sold half a million f*cking albums, 'cause he didn't."
Last week, Sabrina Carpenter took to her X account to dedicate her win to Nicki Minaj, writing,
"this one's for nicki."
In response, Minaj returned the favor through an Instagram Live.
Sabrina Carpenter's latest album, Short N' Sweet, is available to stream online.
