Drake has made headlines after he was accused of banning Kendrick Lamar’s Not Like Us from several clubs in Houston. The rumor started just after a Houston DJ, named DJ Ari, responded to a post on X on Monday, July 22, 2024. The initial post stated,
“Drake really got Not Like Us banned in Houston."
To this, DJ Ari responded and wrote,
"Yea i done already got in trouble a few times for playing it at some clubs.”
The tweet was then picked up by several outlets like XXL Magazine and Hot New Hip Hop who reported that it was indeed Champagne Papi who stopped the Houston clubs from playing Lamar’s diss track targeting Drizzy. However, as the reports caught the eye of DJ Ari, he clarified it was not Drake who told him not to play the song.
Sharing a screenshot of the news report by The Neighborhood Talk about the rumor, DJ Ari clarified,
“Headlines can be misleading. Drake nor J Price never told me not to play the song. Promoters and people that respect those guys told me not to and it was understood. That’s it and that’s all.”
Kendrick Lamar’s Not Like Us, a diss track targeting Drake, is continuing to top charts globally, as the singer released the official music video of the song on July 4, 2024, after releasing the audio on May 4, 2024.
Drake did not stop Houston clubs from playing Kendrick’s “Not Like Us”: Details explored about the singers' feud as fake news spreads on social media
The rumor about Drake stopping several clubs in Houston from playing Kendrick’s song targeting him started doing rounds soon after a post from a Houston DJ confirmed the same. However, the DJ later confirmed that it was not Drizzy, but the promoters who respect him asked the clubs not to play the song.
While the feud between the rappers goes back a decade, however, the rap beef restarted after Drake and J. Cole released First Person Shooter in October 2023, stating Drake, Cole, and Kendrick were the big three. This prompted Lamar to feature Like That by Metro Boomin and Future in March 2024, which was followed by Push Ups and Taylor Made Freestyle by Drake.
Kendrick Lamar then gave a reply to the singer through Euphoria as he released the song in April, followed by 6:16 in LA. Drake was also swift to reply as he then dropped another diss track, called Family Matters which spoke about his relationship with his family, especially his fiancé, Whitney.
Kendrick then dropped Not Like Us in May 2024 and then released the music video of the song after two months. The music video also targeted Drake, as it mocked his OVO Owl, and showed Kendrick happy with Whitney and the kids, referencing Drake’s track, Family Matters.
As the fake news continues to spread, neither Drake nor Kendrick Lamar has yet spoken up on the matter.
