As Diddy garners immense scrutiny online following the release of the footage of him assaulting Cassie Ventura, claims of J. Cole getting into an altercation with him have spread like wildfire across the internet. Speculation about the two getting into a fight in 2013 has been widely discussed, with Cole also addressing the same in his 2021 track Let Go My Hand.
Despite the claims circulating across the internet, it is worth noting that J. Cole, whose real name is Jermaine Lamarr Cole, has denied rumors of the scuffle. The rumors of the duo getting into a physical altercation reignited on May 17 after X user @robbing_ took to the social networking site to state:
"ppl love to call J Cole soft but he was the only rapper that put hands on Diddy."
The tweet was quick to go viral, and it amassed nearly five million views. Many then took to the site to react to the same. Some said:
"Super Heroes are soft to everyone but hard on villains," one X user stated.
"He choosing the right battles for sure," another X user commented.
"Folks also say be careful of the quiet/ peaceful one," a user stated.
Many continued to praise Cole for supposedly fighting with Diddy. Other reactions read:
"Bruh Jcole really the GOAT fr," one X user stated.
"Water is soft doesn’t mean it won’t drown a ni*ga," a platform user commented.
"Preach. Cole is genuinely one of the best humans in the entire music industry," said an X user.
As the claims circulated online, several others sided with Cole as well. Comments read:
"I’ve always had Faith in Cole he’s too real for dis shiii," a platform user said.
"Cole the best person out the big 3," said another X user.
As the claim continues to garner reaction online, it is worth noting that it is far from the truth.
J. Cole and Diddy denied getting into an altercation
Many have repeatedly discussed the scuffle between the two singers that took place in 2013. It has been reported that the two got into a dual at the after-party of the MTV Video Music Awards. Rumor had it that Cole was dancing too close to Diddy’s then-girlfriend and singer Cassie Ventura, leading to the two men getting into a fight.
Another rumor that has made its rounds claims that Cole was attempting to defend Kendrick Lamar from Diddy, who was about to throw a drink on K. Dot over Big Sean’s Control track.
It was reported that J Cole was kicked out of the party after the fight.
Despite the rumor being spoken about for years, Cole has denied claims of a fight. He took to X (then Twitter) to state, “people will believe anything.” Diddy also took to the social networking site to deny claims of the two getting into an altercation. He said:
"I usually don’t address rumors but I got too much respect for my bro @JColeNC. We are friends. The rumors are not true. We had a great party."
After the two denied rumors of getting into a fight, J. Cole addressed the same in his Let Go of My Hand track, where he sang:
"Couple wins, couple losses, some broken up too quick to call it/ Last scrap with Puff Daddy, who would’ve thought it?/ I bought that ni*ga album in seventh grade and played it so much/ You would’ve thought my favourite rapper was Puff/ Back then I ain’t know sh*t, now I know too much."
The duo also collaborated in an Instagram post in 2021 where they jokingly enacted them fighting each other, seemingly hinting that there was no tension between the two.
