A recent Facebook post claiming that Taylor Swift's sister received $63,000 in student loan forgiveness has been widely circulated and shared. The post has garnered significant attention and sparked considerable debate on social media. However, this claim is entirely false.
On July 14, 2024, a Facebook page called America's Last Line of Defense claimed in a now-deleted post that the sister of renowned singer-songwriter Taylor Swift benefitted from a significant student loan forgiveness program. The post garnered substantial attention and was shared thousands of times, leading many to question the legitimacy of the information.
However, this is untrue because Swift has no sister. She has only one sibling, her younger brother Austin Swift. He was born on March 11, 1992, and is a renowned businessman, producer, and actor.
False claim: Taylor Swift's sister received $63K in student loan forgiveness
As previously mentioned, a Facebook post, which has been widely shared, alleged that Swift's sister benefited from an amount of student loan forgiveness. The claim, which has been debunked, features Taylor Swift wearing a red T-shirt and cheering for the players of the Kansas City Chiefs.
She stood alongside Brittany Mahomes, whom the since-deleted post incorrectly claimed to be Swift's sister. Brittany Mahomes is NFL quarterback Patrick Mahomes's wife. The post had a picture caption that reads as follows:
"Taylor Swift is Worth a Billion Dollars. Her Little Sister Just Received $63K in "Student Loan Forgiveness."
Moreover, the post had a caption reflecting the student loan amount, and the page suggested that the system was rigged.
"They said it would only go to the needy. Could not she spare some pocket change? This system is rigged," the caption read over the false claims.
It is essential to note that the Facebook page, America's Last Line of Defense, had a uniform resource locator (URL) indicating it was a satire site (ALLOD Satire). While the page is no longer available online, Snopes has confirmed that the flagship of the ALLOD page explicitly stated that the information presented on the page was untrue.
"The flagship of the ALLOD network of trollery. Nothing on this page is real," the page read.
In addition, the page had an attached link to the Dunning Kruger Times website, which claimed to be the subsidiary account for America's Last Line of Defense. The About Us section of the website reads as follows:
"Dunning-Kruger-Times.com is a subsidiary of the "America's Last Line of Defense" network of parody, Satire, and tomfoolery, or as Snopes called it, before they lost the war on Satire: Junk News."
It further stated that Satire is a term used for humor. Most interestingly, the page also suggests that the website is fiction-based. The information proposed on America's Last Line of Defense subsidiary page is unreal.
Most importantly, the critical fact invalidating this claim is that, as mentioned, Taylor Swift has no sister. She has a brother named Austin Swift.
A brief about Taylor Swift's only sibling, Austin Swift
Austin, 32, grew up with his sister on a Pennsylvanian farm. When Austin turned 12, the entire family moved to Nashville, Tennessee. According to Hello Magazine, Austin has always wanted to join the arts industry, so his passion led him to land in crime thriller I.T., his debut in 2016. He starred in another hit, Live by Night, alongside A-listers such as Ben Affleck, Elle Fanning, and Zoe Saldana.
He also marked a grace in the television industry in 2017 as he was featured in a comedy series, Embeds, for two episodes and did one episode of Billy Ray Cyrus' show Still the King. In the following year, Austin did a mystery-thriller movie, Cover Versions, and in 2019, he was signed for another thriller, We Summon the Darkness. His craft did not remain limited to thrills or suspense; he touched the comedy genre, too, with Braking for Whales.
