A recent viral rumor, claiming that Walmart canceled a $150 million clothing line collaboration with pop superstar Taylor Swift due to political reasons, has been thoroughly debunked.

On October 2, 2024, a page called "America—Love It or Leave It" posted a claim on a since-deleted Facebook post. The post, a textual photo, claimed that Walmart had canceled its collaboration with Swift because she is a "political star." The viral claim came after Taylor Swift endorsed United States presidential candidate Kamala Harris on Instagram.

However, the claim is found to be false, as the page itself suggested in its Facebook page bio that all information on the page is based on fiction. Therefore, the claim that Walmart canceled a $150 million clothing line collaboration with Swift is untrue.

False claim: Walmart canceled Taylor Swift's $150M clothing line due to political reasons

As mentioned, on Wednesday, a Facebook post claimed that Walmart, an American multinational retail corporation, had canceled a $150 million clothing line collaboration with international music superstar Taylor Swift due to political reasons. This claim was found to be false.

The claim was then deleted, but it had been reacted to by more than 2000 people by that time. The post suggested:

"Walmart Cancels $150 Million Taylor Swift Kids Clothing Line: 'We Paid for a Star, Not a Political Sideshow."

The reason the claim is untrue, is that the introduction of the Facebook page, "America - Love It or Leave It", that had posted the rumor, read:

"A subsidiary of the America's Last Line of Defense network of trollery. Nothing on this page is real."

The Facebook page America's Last Line of Defense, which America - Love It or Leave It is a subsidiary of, creates fake or exaggerated news stories as a form of satire or comedy, often to mock current events or political situations.

Moreover, it is important to note that the URL of the page, America's Last Line of Defense, suggests that it is a satire site (ALLOD Satire). However, for now, the page is no longer available, but it explicitly stated in its 'About Us' section that no information on the page is real:

"The flagship of the ALLOD network of trollery. Nothing on this page is real," the page read.

Additionally, the page included a link to the Dunning Kruger Times website, which identified itself as a subsidiary of America's Last Line of Defense. The 'About Us' section of the website suggested that they are a "network of parody":

"Dunning-Kruger-Times.com is a subsidiary of the "America's Last Line of Defense" network of parody, satire, and tomfoolery," the page reads.

Most significantly, this claim is a rumor because neither Taylor Swift nor Walmart has ever announced or discussed any clothing line collaboration. However, another U.S. retailer, Target, has launched a children's clothing line inspired by Taylor Swift's tour outfits, which is available online and in stores.

Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris

On September 11, 2024, Taylor Swift took to her Instagram account and posted a picture of herself in a black highneck while holding a cat. In the post, she endorsed Kamala Harris and Tim Walz publically and said that Harris supports the same belief as Swift.

"I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I'm voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them," Swift wrote.

Taylor Swift also noted in her post that she made the public reveal following a false AI interpretation of her online, which claimed that Swift had endorsed Donald Trump. She further stated that due to "the dangers of spreading misinformation", she thought of making her choice of vote transparent.

Moreover, Swift suggested that she did her research before deciding to cast a vote for one party.

The United States presidential election will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
