Billie Eilish has candidly shared her challenges with her brother and creative partner, FINNEAS, while producing their latest album, Hit Me Hard and Soft.

On May 21, 2024, in an exclusive interview with Apple Music hosted by Zane Lowe, Billie revealed that the creation of this album had been the most testing period for their relationship as both siblings and music collaborators. The acclaimed singer recalled they were "out of sync" and had a big fight one night —

"I don't know how we're gonna do this, and I remember there was one night and it was raining or something, and Finneas and I had a big fight."

Billie Eilish's third studio album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, released on May 17, 2024. The album features ten tracks, all co-written by Eilish and her brother, FINNEAS, who also produced it.

Billie Eilish and FINNEAS face sibling strife during the creation of Hit Me Hard and Soft

Earlier this week, in an interview with Zane Lowe, a New Zealand radio DJ, on Apple Music and posted on YouTube, Billie Eilish suggested that she and FINNEAS argued about the album creation process. She revealed they felt uncertain, questioning themselves, "What are we doing?" —

"At the time, there was nothing to tell us that it was gonna be great eventually, so we felt kind of like, what are we doing?"

FINNEAS revealed his experience with making Hit Me Hard and Soft

"We were brutal; the whole year, we were making this about like drilling deeper."

Billie Eilish then added,

"And what was really different was that we kind of went against our comfort zone. FINNEAS was like I don't like doing this anymore. I don't want to write music right now."

FINNEAS further offered his perspective on the altercation between the siblings and noted that during the specific evening of the disagreement, he felt he could not understand and connect with his own genuine emotions —

"I felt, and again I've been proven wrong over and over, but this was the jag I was on that night. I was like, subject wise, I'm not being led into what you're actually feeling."

He further noted that,

"I think there are real guards up. Oftentimes in your life, you're going through the thing that you're gonna write about later and that was for sure happening to Billie at that point in time."

FINNEAS elaborated,

"I remember like we just had this argument of me being like, just say how you feel, and let's write a song about whatever you are scared about."

Billie subsequently disclosed that this guidance allowed her to express herself truthfully, marking a pivotal moment of honesty in their creative journey —

"And I think that this was like the first day really that I was able to be honest."

Billie also acknowledged that FINNEAS was grappling with his challenges during this time, and their usual work-relationship roles were reversed.

The duo's commitment to their art shines through in the final product, Hit Me Hard and Soft, which promises to be one of their most interesting works to date as it debuts at No. 1 on the latest ARIA Chart, as per Billboard.

According to Billboard, the album's second track, LUNCH, marked No. 5 on the national singles survey for the top debut of the week, making it her 15th top-five hit spot in Australia.

The other songs in the album include SKINNY, CHIHIRO, BIRDS OF A FEATHER, WILDFLOWER, THE GREATEST, L'AMOUR DE MA VIE, THE DINER, BITTERSUITE, and BLUE.
