On June 30, rapper and record executive Rick Ross performed at the Ignite Music Festival at the Plaza of Nations in Vancouver, Canada. There, he reportedly engaged in an altercation with certain members of the audience after he tried to play Kendrick Lamar’s Drake diss track Not Like Us towards the end of his set.
The video of the incident went viral soon after and showed Rick Ross allegedly getting punched in the face, while one of his men was left unconscious. In the wake of these reports, Rick Ross took to his Instagram Story on July 4 and claimed that he wasn’t punched.
The Teflon Don rapper began by saying how he had been retrospecting the Vancouver incident and continued to say what happened.
“When the first dude stepped up to Rozay, the little short, fat one… and then I squat down his eyes and you know what I said? ‘Basically, boy, if I hit you I’m going see everything you ate for the past two days’… He never said another word, he never did nothing. He was a straight buster,” Rozay noted.
Rick Ross further added that another guy turned up after that and claimed to know MMA, which he was when he got hit with a drink on his face.
“I’m still convinced ain’t no n**ga punch me. Somebody said, ‘Rozay, the n**ga tried to punch you, he hit you.’ I said, ‘Nah, he had to throw a drink coz throwing a drink would have been way more disrespectful than screaming, ‘I know MMA!’” he mentioned.
Since he addressed the Vancouver incident, the clip has garnered enough traction online. While Rozay seems convinced he wasn’t punched in the face, netizens who saw the alleged brawl video seemed to disagree.
For instance, Instagram user @havingrealcashh took to the comment section of The Shade Room’s repost of Ross’ Instagram Story video, and mockingly wrote:
“First stage: Denial.”
Here are some of the other reactions from X slamming/ trolling Rick Ross for lying, being in denial, and living behind his team who later got jumped.
“At least we got a new Ross meme,” a person wrote.
“Boy trying troll his way outta this one,” one person wrote.
“We all saw the footage Titso,” another person wrote.
“From now on, he’s officer Ricky. Lies and lies and lies,” a netizen wrote.
“Bruh, we saw you escaping through the back, leaving your crew to get beat on. Hang it up,” another netizen wrote.
“This just made it worse. Just say, we see y’all again,” an individual wrote.
“Lmao wasn’t that Ross own d*mn drink he tossed when he got smacked?” another individual wrote.
Rick Ross previously claimed that none of his men were seriously injured
Over the last weekend at the Ignite Music Festival in Vancouver, Rick Ross got jumped by a crowd of men, allegedly part of Drake’s OVO crew. The incident took place when Rozay attempted to play Not Like Us after wrapping up his gig, which did not sit well with the audience.
Videos and images from the day went viral on social media, which showed Rick Ross and his crew walking through a crowd to a specific group of men as the Drake diss track continued to play in the background.
Soon, the two sides allegedly got involved in a verbal altercation which later turned physical, with Ross reportedly getting punched in his face and dropping his drink.
One of his men who appeared to be security personnel also got attacked by multiple men and was seemingly knocked unconscious. However, in the aftermath of the incident, Rozay exclusively told TMZ that neither he nor his crew was seriously injured.
The following day, he took to his Instagram and downplayed the altercation by posing in front of his private jet and writing, “Vancouver, it was fun, til next time.”
Queens-based rapper 50 Cent weighed in on the incident and wrote on Instagram expressing his hope that “brother made it home safely”, but also took the opportunity to slam Rozay saying his actions did not reflect well on either him or their camp.
Rick Ross’ former partner and baby mother Tia Kemp also ridiculed him by saying he was trying to hide his eyes on social media because he was injured. In response, the Hustlin’ rapper uploaded a close-up of his face and dismissed his ex’s speculation with a laugh.
