Kendrick Lamar released the music video for his diss track, Not Like Us, on Thursday, July 4, 2024, two months after he released the track. From featuring K-Dot doing push-ups to taking jabs at Drake in several scenes, the video also featured his partner, Whitney Alford, and their two kids, referencing 6 God's diss track, Family Matters.
As soon as netizens took notice of Whitney and the kids dancing in the music video, several reactions started pouring in on social media. While many hailed K-Dot victorious in the beef war against Drake, some others bashed both Whitney and Kendrick Lamar by stating how the former's inclusion looked “forced.”
As an X user, @AkademiksTV posted the short 10-second clip of the family grooving together, a social media user commented and said:
“Forced as hell.”
Many others chimed in and also reacted to Whitney’s cameo in the video.
“I don’t think this looks like how he wants it to…. This looks very forced and it’s just him tryna “prove” to Drake and fans that their relationship is good. Not a great look tbh,” commented another social media user.
“He made her do that,” said another social media user.
On the other hand, a few social media users were pleased to see the family together in the music video, as they commented:
"Love it! Dug up and buried again," commented a netizen.
"Master move!" stated another social media user
"OVHOES crying everywhere. A long long summer," wrote an X user
Apart from Whitney Alford, and their two kids, the song also features many West Coast figures like Mustard, Tommy the Clown, DeMar DeRozan, and Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith.
Kendrick Lamar responds to Drake's domestic violence allegations in Not Like Us music video
Just like Kendrick Lamar’s song, Not Like Us, came as a surprise in May 2024, the music video featuring the family of the singer also left netizens off-guard. Many claimed Kendrick included his partner, Whitney Alford, to disprove Drake's claims that the Compton native abused his fiancée.
In Drake’s Family Matters, the Canadian rapper accused Kendrick Lamar of intimate partner violence. Champagne Papi also alleged that Lamar has been estranged from his family and claimed that one of his children was “fathered” by his manager, Dave Free, who directed the Not Like Us music video.
“You a dog and you know it, you just play sweet. Your baby mama captions always screamin', "Save me.” You did her dirty all your life, you tryna make peace. I heard that one of 'em little kids might be Dave Free," Drake raps in Family Matters.
Furthermore, the song also featured the OVO owl, which is the logo of Drake’s music label. Lamar is seen punching an owl pinata multiple times as a disclaimer on the screen states, “No OVH**s were harmed during the making of this video.”
Since the music video was released, it has garnered close to 10 million views in just a few hours. Although fans of Kendrick Lamar are raving about the music video, many fans of Drake are now criticizing the singer for including references to Drizzy's song in it. The Canadian rapper has not yet responded to or addressed the music video.
