From R. Kelly to Ghislaine Maxwell: List of high profile inmates Diddy's MDC Brookyn prison has housed

54-year-old music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs' bail has been denied by the judge for the second time, which means he'd have to stay behind the bars until the trial begins. Due to this decision, Combs is currently staying at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.

Meanwhile, it is worth noting that the facility had witnessed a number of high profile inmates over the years. From actors and rappers to former socialites and singers, a lot of popular inmates had been staying at the detention center.

The list includes: R. Kelly, Michael Cohen, Tekashi69, Keith Raniere, Juan Orlando Hernández Alvarado, Ja Rule, Ghislaine Maxwell, and Allison Mack, were a few of those well-known names in the Brooklyn prison. For the unversed, MDC is currently the only federal jail in Brooklyn.

Over the years, the detention center, which opened back in the 1990s, had become a "hell on earth" and has been described as an "ongoing tragedy", as mentioned in an article published by The Associated Press.

Since the time of his opening, the establishment had been facing a number of issues. The federal Bureau of Prisons had issued a statement previously which read:

"We also take seriously addressing the staffing and other challenges at MDC Brooklyn."

As mentioned before, Sean "Diddy" Combs had been denied bail even after his legal team offered a package of $50 million. Since then, he is expected to be staying at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center until the beginning of his trial.

Here is a list of some other celebrities who had been staying in the prison-

• Al Sharpton (Baptist minister & political activist)

In 2001, Sharpton was found guilty of trespassing a federal property, while protesting against the US military presence in an island in Puerto Rico. He had spent about 90 days in the establishment.

• Ghislaine Maxwell (Former socialite)

Maxwell was convicted of some grave charges including child s*x trafficking. Some of them were even related to convicted s*x offender Jeffrey Epstein. Maxwell is currently in a different facility.

• Ja Rule (Rapper)

He spent about 28 months in the prison before getting released in 2013. The rapper was convicted of federal tax evasion.

• R. Kelly (Singer)

Kelly is now in a different facility, however, according to Brooklyn Magazine, he had spent time at the MDC. Kelly was convicted of child s*xual abuse, kidnapping, bribery and s*x trafficking.

• Allison Mack (Actress)

The 42-year-old actress pleaded guilty to racketeering and racketeering conspiracy as part of NXIVM cult, back in 2019.

It could be concluded that several A-listers inmates had been present at the same detention center where Sean "Diddy" Combs has to stay now. A major reason that Diddy joined this particular federal detention center was that the other one in New York was shut down in 2021.

XXL Mag reported that the mogul has been staying in a special housing unit separated from other inmates. In other news, as of now, no trial date regarding Diddy's case, has been confirmed.
