Kendrick Lamar, who surprise-released his sixth studio album, GNX, last Friday, November 22 - dropped the music video of the album's second single, Squabble Up, yesterday.
At one point in the music video, the Poetic Justice rapper is seen sitting on a chair and reading a book, "How To Be More Like Kendrick for Dummies."
The title of Lamar's book went viral on social media, with many netizens reacting to it on X.
Some users quickly turned to the platform and joked that Drake had pre-ordered the book.
"Drake finna go purchase this book and still won’t be like Kendrick" - wrote an X user.
"If that book was real, his fans would literally spend 12 hours a day reading it over and over again" - commented another.
"Drake preordering as we speak" - replied a third one.
Many other users remarked that Kendrick's fans would be buying the book in bundles.
"He is teaching himself how to be the old Kendrick again" - posted a fourth user.
"Ni***s finna buy that book in bundles" - wrote a fifth user.
"should be an actual book." - replied a sixth one.
Elsewhere in the song, Kendrick Lamar is also seen holding a sign in his hands that reads: Jesus Saves Gangsters too.
A snippet of Kendrick Lamar's Squabble Up was added to the music video of Not Like Us
The book Kendrick Lamar appears to be reading in the music video of Squabble Up isn't the only part of the song that's caught listeners' attention. The opening of the track has garnered public attention as well. This is because this part of Squabble Up was released seven months ago.
When Kendrick Lamar dropped his diss track titled Not Like Us - aimed at Drake - on May 4, it had a 15-second snippet of a then-unreleased track attached at the front. The video has since amassed over 178 million views on YouTube, with more than 5 million likes.
As the music video for Not Like Us dropped two months later, it opened with the Money Tree rapper in a white tracksuit paired with a bandana tied over his head, as he walked through a garage with flickering lights.
The lines of the added snipped included:
"God knows, I am reincarnated/ I was stargazin'/ Life goes on, I need all my babies (Gyah, gyah)/ Woke up lookin' for the broccoli/ High-key, keep a horn on me, that Kamasi/ IP, ownership, the blueprint is by me/ Mr. Get Off, I get off at my feet"
Fast forward to last Friday, the second track of his surprise album - Squabble Up - opened with the same lines. The song samples Debbie Deb's 1984 track, When I Hear Music.
In the song, the Father Time rapper pays homage to late rappers Nate Dogg and Mac Dre, the TV show Soul Train, as well as the movie Menace II Society.
The music video of Squabble Up was released roughly 12 hours before writing this article and has already amassed 3.4 million views. K-Dot dons a blue hoodie in the track, paired with a matching cap worn with its hood at the back, paired with grey jeans and blue shoes. His elaborate, bejeweled belt in the album's artwork is also looped around the rapper's waist in the video.
Kendrick Lamar's recent album is named after a vintage Buick model launched in 1987 - the same year the LOYALTY rapper was born - Buick Grand National Experiment (GNX). K-Dot also bought the car in March this year, revealing that it was the same model his father used to bring him home from the hospital.
