Rapper Cardi B responded to the recent backlash she faced after jokingly called Atlantic Records a correctional facility. The rapper shared an Instagram story on August 28, where she shared an image of herself in the studios. In her caption, she wrote, "Back at Atlantic Records correctional facilities."
Cardi's caption seemingly did not sit well with some fans, leading to a backlash. The singer responded to her critics on Thursday (August 29) via X and wrote:
“The fact that I made a little joke about the studio because I been mixing and mastering about 40-50 songs and y’all turned that into I hate creating is crazy. This why artists don’t interact anymore cuz y’all will take one little joke and stretch it wider than y’all a**holes.”
In another follow-up tweet, she added:
"God forbid I make a little sarcastic jokey jokey about motherhood y’all gonna claim I hate my kids and call cps…dweebs 😩"
Cardi B is yet to release her second studio after six years. Her debut album, Invasion of Privacy, dropped in 2018 and fans have been asking the rapper for updates about her next album for a while.
Although Cardi previously hinted that her sophomore album would drop in 2024, earlier this year, she said it won't come this year. Atlantic Records quickly responded to her post to assure fans they would release it as soon as possible. However, no release date or updates about the same have been shared.
Cardi B confirmed that her sophomore album will not come out in 2024
In May 2024, Cardi B took to X to inform her fans that her much-anticipated sophomore album would not come out this year as expected. She wrote:
“I hate that I fall back and start interacting again and it bites me in the a**. Anyway NO album this year I don’t care I’m relaxing this year ..Dropping these features I already committed to and traveling and enjoying my summer."
Within a week of Cardi's sudden announcement, her studio Atlantic Records shared her June 2024 cover story with Rolling Stone and assured fans they were working to release her sophomore album as soon as possible. Meanwhile, Cardi also deleted her aforementioned post. The official account wrote the tweet:
"Cardi B's upcoming album is one of the most anticipated this year. We can't wait put it out, even if we have to sneak into her studio and take it! 👀"
In her June 2024 interview with Rolling Stone, Cardi shared some details about the recording process of her next album. The rapper revealed that while much of the work is done, it still needs an intro, at least three more songs, and a title. It also requires some features and a rollout plan.
Cardi revealed that she's been working on it for a while and on some days she doesn't want to go home until it's done. The rapper explained:
"I’m a different person every single day. When I’m in a good mood and I’m with my friends, [I’m] like, ‘Damn, I want my sh*t to be played in this club.’ But then I might be mad with my man, so it’s like now I want to do this song. But then I want to do a pop record. I want to do my sing-y sh*t.”
Cardi B also explained that every time she is in Los Angeles to record more songs, she is initially motivated, but later starts missing her children and becomes homesick. The rapper also revealed that she wants her next album to have a wide reach and portray her as a "mosaic of a woman."
Speaking about fans questioning her dedication, Cardi recalled an incident and said:
“Like yesterday, I was scrolling through TikTok and a b**ch made me cry. She was just like, ‘She has got to give it up. She’s better off being an influencer. You was cosplaying being a rapper. Because you don’t take it seriously. That’s why you don’t put out your music."
She continued:
"And it’s like, I take my music so f**king seriously that that’s why I don’t put it out. Because if it’s not perfect to my ear, if every f**king word doesn’t sound like it’s pronounced right, if the beat is overpowering the words or the words is overpowering the beat, I don’t want to put it out.”
Cardi B added comments like these online demotivate her further and she ends up wasting more time playing Netflix all day.
Earlier this month, Cardi B shared via X that the cover art for her next album was ready, but she couldn't choose one for herself.
In other news, Cardi B is also pregnant with her third child with her estranged husband, Offset. The rapper announced her pregnancy on August 1. On the same day, Billboard reported that the rapper and offset are to separate legally as a couple.
