Caresha Romeka Brownlee, a.k.a. Yung Miami, recently opened up about her fallout with her City Girls mate, JT, which led to the duo going their separate ways. During the season 2 premiere of Miami's podcast, Caresha Please, on Thursday, August 8, 2024, the rapper was asked about their split by guest host Saucy Santana.
Caresha explained that she and JT "outgrew" each other, especially since they live on opposite coasts. She added that she had no clue JT was working on her debut solo album, City Cinderella.
"I think we both was at a point where we was just like, we should probably just do our own sh*t," Miami stated.
She elaborated that since their 2023 album RAW, they were "not connecting" like they used to and felt like they were at different places. Remarking that they were doing their own thing, Yung Miami stated:
"But when we get together as a group, it just wasn’t connecting... It just wasn’t working no more. So I think we both was at a point where we was just like, we should probably just do our own sh*t. But that was the point for me."
The news left netizens divided, with many choosing sides. One user claimed:
Many sided with Yung Miami, stating JT was the problem. Here are some comments seen under @theneighborhoodtalk's post on Instagram.
Others commented in favor of JT, saying she loved Caresha more than vice versa.
Yung Miami and JT formed their hip-hop duo City Girls in 2017
City Girls is a hip-hop duo consisting of Miami-born rappers Yung Miami and JT, a.k.a. Jatavia Shakara Johnson. The pair signed with Quality Control Music in 2017 and released their mixtape, Period, a year later.
A few months after its release, City Girls made a guest appearance on Drake's In My Feelings (2018). The track peaked at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. The same year, they dropped their debut studio album, Girl Code, which received critical acclaim. Their other hit songs include My Type, Leave Em Alone, and Twerk.
Tensions between Yung Miami and JT escalated in April when they had a public dispute on X. On April 8, Miami accused her City Girls partner of "sneak dissing" her on her solo mixtape, City Cinderella. She specified JT's tracks No Bars (from RAW) and Sideways.
JT responded by tweeting:
"I know I come off crazy but never in my life did no wack sht to this girl."
Jatavia slammed Caresha for being "attention-seeking." The back and forth continued for some time before they later reconciled and expressed their mutual love, though these messages were also deleted.
In addition to her fallout with Jatavia, Miami was questioned about her former boyfriend, Diddy, who is currently facing a slew of s*xual assault lawsuits. Caresha's name has also been implicated in the rapper's legal troubles, with many accusing her of transporting "pink cocaine" for the disgraced music mogul.
Yung Miami remarked that she was not ready to answer everything, adding that she "met him in a whole new era" and "that wasn't (his) experience."
JT has not publicly reacted to Miami's comments.
