Eminem fans were in for a treat when the rapper surprised the audience at Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg's Gin & Juice Party on July 18, 2024. Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, performed Houdini and Forgot About Dre when he joined his long-time collaborators on stage.
Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg were in London to promote their beverage line, Gin & Juice, after the eponymous 2004 song.
As clips of Mathers's performance circulated on social media, his fans were ecstatic to see the rapper on stage again, with one fan tweeting his catchphrase.
Several fans praised the rapper for his performance and his new album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).
"This is next level," tweeted one fan.
"lol I would’ve screamed too," added another fan.
"Em have never cheated the game," wrote someone.
"His new album is a masterpiece…incredible going back too his early era," commented a fan.
Others wondered if the performance meant Marshall Mathers would embark on his own tour to promote his new album.
"You sound crispy. I hope this is just practice for a tour a little later. The stage misses you!!!" exclaimed one fan.
"In all my years I’ve never been to see Eminem! please come to the states!!! Wisconsin needs an Eminem concert!" added another.
"Legendary performance! More shows in Europe please!" someone wrote.
Eminem was in London for The Death of Slim Shady Pop-Up
Eminem dropped his 12th studio album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), on July 12, 2024. The album was meant to herald the death of his darker alter ego, Slim Shady. The rapper referred to his 19-track album as "conceptual," releasing tracks like Houdini and Tobey as the lead singles.
On July 15, the rapper revealed on social media that he would be traveling to London for a "pop-up experience" to send a proper farewell to the alter ego. The two-day event was held at 59 Greek Street in Soho on July 17 and 18.
"A proper farewell to Slim Shady in London! Join us July 17th & 18th for the @complex pop-up experience to celebrate the release of The Death of Slim Shady at 59 Greek Street in Soho. #TheDeathofSlimShady," the post's caption read.
According to The Sun, the pop-up shop and exhibition had an open coffin with Slim Shady's "corpse" in a funeral parlour-like setup inside Popsomp Hills Mortuary, a fictitious place often referred to in the rapper's music.
Mathers surprised the attendees when he showed up at Slim Shady's funeral, signing autographs and taking pictures with fans.
The music video for Houdini saw a bevy of cameos from Eminem's frequent collaborators, including 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre. The video is a direct callback to Slim Shady's Without Me music video, as it followed the comic book premise, with Dr. Dre and Mathers reprising their roles.
Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Dr. Dre have often featured in each other's songs and music videos. The three also joined 50 Cent, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime in 2022.
