Billy Ray Cyrus recently shared a post dedicated to his daughter Miley Cyrus amidst rumors of a strained relationship between the father-daughter duo. On Friday, June 7, 2023, the country singer took to his Instagram to share an image of "one of (his) best memories ever"—himself with a young Miley at the CMA Fan Fest. He captioned the post:
"I’m incredibly proud of her. She's a survivor and a true artist. She learned early on to love and appreciate the fans who make everything possible."
Per the post, the photo was captured by someone on the fair grounds who handed it to Billy. Below the picture was a poem that the county singer wrote that day, with Miley's Flowers playing in the background of the post.
As news of Billy's post spread, the internet was quick to express their skepticism. One even called his actions "embarrassing." Here are some comments seen on X:
"Billy Ray Cyrus had to wait until he had a fight with his new young wife to talk about his daughter Miley Cyrus again... this is embarrassing," wrote one user.
"We still don't forgive him. F you billy for abandoning Miley for years, unfollowing her, ignoring her and acting like she doesn't exist. Imagine unfollowing your daughter but still following her abusive ex husband," added @brightmindedxx.
"Didn't they stop talking because the father was dating a woman the same age as Miley??? Or did I dream that," chimed in another.
One called Billy Ray Cyrus a "deadbeat," while another stated he was doing it for clout.
"The way these deadbeats keep talking about their estranged daughters is exactly how my dad spoke about me when he was being nice/trying to get me to like him is NOT lost on me," commented Liz Waters.
"Why is everything suddenly okay in this family?" reacted one user.
"why do i feel like there's no sincerity in his message?? it literally looks like he's only doing this for clout, he's probably scared that he'd get dragged with all the father-children celeb issues lol," added another.
Billy Ray Cyrus and Miley Cyrus' relationship has been strained since his divorce from her mother Tish
Rumors of a family feud began when Miley Cyrus's siblings Noah and Braison were absent from their mother Tish Cyrus', wedding to Dominic Purcell in August 2023, choosing to spend the day at Walmart (as seen in their since-deleted IG Story). Meanwhile, their siblings, Miley, Brandi, and Trace, attended the wedding, with the former serving as Tish's maid of honor and even walking her down the aisle.
Billy Ray Cyrus married Tish in 1993, and they share five kids. They filed for divorce in April 2022, citing "irreconcilable differences." In an October 2022 post, E!News reported (citing an insider) that the father-daughter duo's relationship has been "strained" since the divorce.
By November 2022, the In the Heart of a Woman musician was engaged to Australian singer Firerose. At the time, the Can't Be Tamed singer and Billy Ray Cyrus unfollowed each other on Instagram. The Flowers singer was also absent from Billy's wedding in 2023.
Rumors of the rift escalated this year when Miley took home two awards at the Grammys 2024 but left out her father, Noah, Trace, and Braison in her acceptance speech.
The songstress began her speech by saying the award was amazing before adding that it didn't change anything because her life was beautiful yesterday. Adding that everyone is "spectacular," she stated:
"Everyone that's standing on this stage right now— Tom, Tyler, Michael, and Greg. Our teams, my team, Crush, Columbia, my mommy, my sister, my love, my main guys because look how good I look."
Miley continued:
"Anyone else? Your wife, your fiancée, all the people that we love. Thank you all so much. I don't think I forgot anyone. But I might have forgotten underwear. Bye!"
Billy Ray Cyrus has limited the comments on his posts, so only those accounts he follows can comment on them. Miley has not publicly acknowledged the post.
