Halsey got candid about the negativity and hate she received online after releasing her latest single Lucky on 26 July. She said that people who claim to be her fans are meaner to her "than any other people."
The Graveyard hitmaker took to Tumblr on Tuesday, July 30, to call out her fandom in a lengthy post, saying:
"My own fans are hands down meaner to me than any other people on the planet."
While the singer said she's not generalizing, she also noted that the majority of her so-called fans have done nothing but display negativity towards her.
"Not speaking for all of you, of course. But it used to be just a minority that were awful to me and now it seems like a majority have only stuck around to chime in occasionally with their opinion of how much they hate me or how awful I am."
The Without Me musician further expressed her feelings about how hard it's been to engage with people who lack "kindness, sympathy, and patience" and those who don't have any "honest human decency." She also pointed out that she's been hiding from social interactions with fans because she is scared of this very thing happening. She added:
"I almost lost my life. I'm not gonna do anything that doesn't make me happy anymore. I can't spiritually afford it."
Concluding her emotional post, Halsey referenced distancing herself from social media previously when she was recovering from her health struggles. She mentioned that she had hoped to return at that time, but the hate online is now giving her second thoughts about whether it was right to get back to music or not.
"When I got sick all I could think about was getting better so I could come back and be a part of THIS again, but I don't even know what *this* is anymore and I want to crawl in a hole and I regret coming back."
In a follow-up message, Halsey shared that she was traveling for a PET scan while writing the post and teased fans that the "stripped" version of her new single Lucky will also be out.
Halsey was recently diagnosed with lupus and a rare disorder
In her recent Tumblr post, Halsey referenced getting sick and almost losing her life. It comes after the singer opened up about being diagnosed with lupus and a rare, serious disorder called T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder on Instagram (June 4)
The Gasoline singer shared at that time that her health condition was being "managed" and that she was feeling better after two years since she was first diagnosed. She also expressed her enthusiasm and hopes to be back in the music scene "soon" in the same IG post.
Since then, Halsey has dropped her song Lucky, the lead single of her upcoming fifth album, which doesn't have a release date yet. In the track, she sings about a woman who shaves her hair four times just because she wants to, but later she has to do it all again because she gets sick.
Halsey also sings about lying to people for "a whole d*mn year" that she was fine but in truth, it was the "biggest lie" of her career. The Lucky music video was released on July 26.
